I like this place. Food is consistently good. Mixed cocktails are some of the best in town. Food is 4 stars...but my review is chilled literally by the icy memory of dinner there. We were all too cold (other than our one friend somewhat blocked from the glacial breeze by the bar).

I was so cold I found it difficult to eat. My Husband who is rarely affected by temperature, had mentioned how cold it was to the gentleman who seated us, but beyond the space heaters being on high above the tables, nothing was done.

The back wall/slider to the patio is left open which creates a vortex of glacial air that rushes past the tables along the wall opposite the bar. I should have taken the clue from the diners who were already seated wearing their heavy coats, and gone back to the car for my jacket. The added disadvantage being regular assaults of heavy cigarette smoke blowing in from outside.

I sat shivering through a good majority of our meal and found it hard to relax and enjoy the company and delicious food. I will be back, but not on a cold night, and not without my Arctic level parka. The food and service was great, and definitely worth a visit but was difficult to enjoy given the chilling...

We booked a table for 6. The table when we arrived was nicely prepared for us with water and menus. The restaurant is long and narrow but has a wonderful atmosphere and simple decor, but this adds to the charm. The service was friendly and helpful catering to vegan, vegetarian, gluten intolerance. We started with a mix of starters and they were divine, We were asked to order our mains straight away, but they accepted that we wanted to relax and enjoy the evening ( we found out the kitchen is extremely small ) The main courses were so beautifully presented, you already had saliva building up in your mouth when you looked at them. I had a beef rib which was out of this world. There was so much meat and so soft and tender it fell apart in your mouth. My brother had the special of the day hapuka, a really good sized piece of fish with a very tasty salad. No matter what I say I can not begin to do the chef and the kitchen crew justice for the high quality of food we had presented to us that night and with a full restaurant. And most definitely value for money. Would I go there again .....I've already...

Splits is the Picasso of the food world. Hadn't been to Split before, so we arrived for dinner on a Wednesday evening. I prefer lunches as dinners at Restaurants are usually disappointing as food is usually over priced & service slow but this is definitely was NOT the case with Split. We were warmly welcomed & instantly whisked to our table. With a drink in one hand & the menu in the other we were spoilt for choice. We had a Mèzze platter for an entree. & I had the seafood chowder (a entree) as a main & the other half had tender beef short rib main. The Mezze was filled with delicious nibbles & abundant crackers & breads .Seafood chowder was simply divine & the beef cooked to perfection . We just couldn't eat all the Mezze (not from want of trying) & only made it halfway through our mains we were just so full. Our wonderful waiter volunteered to pack all the left overs in boxes to take home. So now we can look foward to another meal tomorrow. The cost was very reasonable. The food & service exceptional. Thank you very much Split. We'll definitely return,...

Service is top-notch and super-friendly to a couple of out-of-towners. Food : the snapper in the fish and chips was super tender and fresh, encased in a crunchy yet light batter. Fries (or chips if you are british) on their own were as good as most other places i have been to (my photo doesnt do 'em justice), but it was the additional combination of the tartare sauce dip and malt vinegar that made this fish & chip dish a very very good plate of food. The clam chowder my fellow diner had was also very good, with a nicely toasted side of garlic bread that packed a good amount of garlic flavour wallop. Kudos to the chef and waiting staff at Split :)

Female staff were friendly, Management guy and cashier guy was so unfriendly, cold and we just felt like we were a burden being there. It took us 1 hour to get food. I did know the restaurant was busy and the female staff member did tell us they were busy but I'd rather not have to feel like having us there was an inconvenience. I thought the food would exceed the service but the food was bland, visually appealing but no taste and cold in temperature. 2 of us didn't finish our meal. Would never come back here again based on experience.
