EDIT: I have amended this review, as a full refund was given in the end (which is more generous than I expected, so thank you). At the time, no such thing was communicated to me - so it appeared I would be charged in full with no other recourse. No word was given that anything else would happen.
However, an hour after the restaurant closed, Menulog notified that the order (which had been marked as delivered and thus I had been told could not be cancelled by me) was now set to cancelled and I would be refunded.
I am sorry that the restaurant staff had to deal with both a broken system and customer (my) irritation as I know it was not their fault. Communication could DEFINITELY have been better though.
In the future, I think I will just order for pickup, or dine-in.
I’ve kept my below review for context:
I love Turmeric, their curries are usually my go-to after a terrible week when I need some stunning soul-food. Today I placed an order through Menulog for delivery.
Two hours later, after two phone calls it had still not arrived. Manager suggested I cancel it on Menulog, however I could not do so as it was marked as ‘delivered’ in the app. In the end, I had to pay the delivery fee, inflated Menulog prices and actually go an pick my cold curry up myself anyway.
No offer to reimburse delivery fee, or anything of that sort. Only being told it was my fault as I should not order through Menulog, but some other online delivery app instead. Great. I understand Menulog’s delivery failure was not their fault. But, they could have phoned me themselves, cancelled it on their end or at least have reimbursed delivery. Terrible service that left a bad taste in my mouth even their delicious food...
Read moreI recently ordered a meal for 16 people at my work lunch from here. We ordered 8 entrees, 7 curries and bread at 10:30 am for delivery at 12:45. I was super impressed that everything was delivered fresh and hot at 12:30 in black chili bin bags. Our lunch begins at 1, so Hemraj was kind enough to leave the bags at our office, so the food stayed hot in it till 1pm, and he also offered to return later and pick the bags up. The food was AMAZING!! Everything was perfectly spiced and no one found it very hot. I am Indian. Sonpfcourse inlike my curries to ahve flavour, but not all my work colleague would enjoy what i eat, so I asked Hemraj's suggestions on what people usually order and like, one dish he suggested was chicken saag, I hadn't tried it before but I selected that as one of my mains and quiet a few people loved it. Absolutely recommend trying it. Another favorite was the Chicken Tikka and sheekh kebab entree with the tamarind and mint dips. They called an hour later to check if everything was fine too. The whole experience of dealing with them was smooth; and the food was great. Highly recommend them whether it's take- away or dine-in or...
Read moreHaving resided in Whangarei for 5 years, and my partner his whole life I was surprised he had never been to this gem of a restaurant. Tucked away down a little quaint cobbled street surrounded in other great eating restaurants is turmeric. We had a sit down meal with ourselves and a friend. Having had weight loss surgery I'm not able to eat much and I normally just pick but I was eager to try everything so we opted for the 2 person banquet which is a very reasonable $90. It includes 8 pieces of starter then 4 different curries, rice, garlic naan and butter naan. The food was to die for. The only reason I haven't given a 5 star rating, which I promise to review again, is due to the ambience. The waitress was lovely but it would be nice if the Indian man who quite often shifts from the front to the back could appear friendlier. An in dining experience I would expect this or at least a smile. You have a wonderful restaurant so appearing proud of it and inviting will honestly land you 5 stars 🤩 I have now been back to Turmeric and what a difference. It was nice to see smiles from the staff so I have now...
