Where do I start! Wow, when you look in from the outside it looks dark and decrepit, but inside it's a warm cosy get away from the busy taupo streets. I started off with a large flat white, it was actually a small coffee hidden in a large cup, with a large amount of foam. The two sugars I asked for were not given to me adding to the bitter experience. I thought at least I have breakfast to look forward to. When it arrived, I thought it must have been a mistake, there was only 2 pieces of bread with bacon and eggs, where is the spinach? This coffee club should be kicked out of the club because they are cutting corners. In comparison to other coffee clubs this place is abysmal, portion sizing is a major problem being half the amounts of normal coffee clubs. If you like tire rubber, you'll love their eggs, the yolks are cooked to powdery perfection. The only thing I would change about the experience is I wish I had a steak knife to cut the chewy ciabtta bread. If you take a group of friends allow plenty of time and make sure you have plenty to talk about as each meal will be brought out 5 minutes apart after your first 20 minute wait. It's great fun watching others eat while you fade away from starvation then they can reciprocate the favour by glumly watching after they finished their meal. My meal recommendation would be the cheese and herb scrambled eggs, they taste like dry cardboard on $1 Budget loaf bread that has been left in the kitchen to go stale, to get that nice hard chewy texture. If you like avocado you are in for a treat, the only pick the most bruised and brown avocados to put on your meal, which compliments the salmon which also had weird brown marks all over it. Make sure you check your receipts because they like to overcharge you too, I was personally charged $5 extra for my herb scrambled eggs, I'm not sure that 1gm of parsley really counts as herbs. Can't wait to take the kids, 5 stars, has to be seen to...
Read moreThis is by far the WORST coffee club I have ever been to. Firstly the poor service we received, we asked for a table for 4 and were just brushed off so we seated ourselves, that was fine. We then got up to place our order (which is quite weird because every other coffee club Ive been to staff take your order while you are seated as part of great customer service) anyway it took about 6mins to wait in line to actually place the order. We waited up to 40 minutes for the food, which by the way we did not mind as we understand it was quite busy the thing is when we received our food the chicken was COMPLETELY RAW. My partner took a bite into it before he noticed, we then cut it in half only to find the chicken raw. We politely told the staff she leans over grabs the plate and says “il bring you a new one” excuse me where is the apology? That is disgusting service the whole table was put off we requested a refund and the manager just left the money on the table still no apology it frustrates me because we were respectful about it and didnt want to cause a scene yet we were treated like sh!t if you ask me. As we left the manager said “thanks guys with a smirk” like he was glad we were leaving. The manager and staff need to learn the basic customer service skills go to any coffee club in auckland and you will leave feeling on top of the world. The service in auckland is spectacular compared to this dump. Full of staff who look like they...
Read moreDisappointing experience today. With the exception of a lovely greeting by staff, the rest was downhill. We were informed to place an order we either scan a QR code or queue at till. Due to the long slow line at the counter, we opted to try the QR code. Not once were we encouraged to use or even told about the wifi available. Once we chose our meals, we then had to sign into an app to place the order. It took longer for this process than it did to look over the menu. After doing our own ordering, the app had the audacity to ask for a tip. Ummmm.....NO! We were able to make notes on our order to customize our meal, but that must have got lost in translation to the kitchen because the meal was not presented as requested (wanted extra crispy bacon and was given regular bacon). The grille was clearly not cleaned properly or does not have a specific area for cooking items separately. There is no reason why a pancake should be riddled with chili. Too spicy for my child to eat. We definitely will NOT be returning to this Cafe. Not once were we approached by staff after we were seated and served food. Had to track someone down for extra napkins. No one asked if we needed help navigating the online menu. No one asked if our meals were okay. The food & coffee was mediocre at best. The only reason for 2 star rating was the very friendly greeting when we entered. With the plethora of cafes in Taupō, I would give this one a miss and go...
