I visited this restaurant about 6months ago with my sister. We went for Tongariro Crossing hike and drove to Taupo looking for Indian food. This is the first restaurant we saw and we are so glad we found such a gem. We had chole bhature and alu paratha. It was the best chhole bhature I ever had in NZ. We were so impressed with food, the warm welcome and attention by the owner himself, we decided to order rice, naan, daal tadka and malai kofta takeaway for our dinner. Again, we were so impressed with the deliciousness of the food. We infact took the left over with us to eat it on the way to Auckland. Last friday, us sisters went to Taupo for the half marathon. We decided to try Indian Affair again to have our dinner. The food was amazing again. We had tadka daal, palak paneer, naan and rice. First time was not just a fluke and showed the consistency of the quality of food. We had the race next day and we went back again for dinner. We were greeted very warmly with a wave as the owner saw us outside through the glass door. This time we ordered entrees-veg manchurian and chips chilly, along with some wine for my sister and mocktail for me. The drinks were average but the entrees were lipsmacking good. For mains we ordered a garlic naan, a butter naan, jeera rice, eggplant-mushroom and methi malai paneer and ordered some more drinks. In the end we could not finish it and packed the left overs to eat on our drive back to Auckland the next day. I have recommended everyone I know to go to this restaurant if they are in Taupo. I will definitely be going there again when next in Taupo. I do not normally write reviews but a staff member very politely asked us if we would mind writing a review after we went on and on telling them how much we enjoyed the food and told them we will be...
Read moreI just had a Quick Look of the photos of food. There is one rice with one Curry. We had 4 people and three of us ordered curry. The waiter confirmed twice if we need bread. We said we will be happy with rice. He asked us what rice do we need. We said normal rice. He asked us how many rice do we need. I said 4 because I did not know one of us ordered fry rice. My friend corrected me. The waiter made me feel that they will charge for rice. I just asked him if we need to pay for the rice. He said I will give you one rice to share. You can order more if you want. My experience of sharing rice is a big bow to share. I said we can have one bow to share. Later on, he just brought on small rice to us. I asked the waitress to bring me a menu to see if the curry is without rice. I did not see any notice. I asked them if the curry is not without rice, you need to state it in your menu instead of telling us. I have been living in New Zealand for 15 years and I love Indian food. It is the first time I have a small bowl rice for sharing. He explained he does not want us to waste food. Obviously, we need more rice to go with the curry. It is not enough. Then he brought another three bowl of rice. We are two 5’10 women and 5’11 200 kg men. I have attached the photo of the size of the rice. I said it is not enough, we need another bowl of rice. Do not need to be very full. I just feel like the waiters wanted us to pay for the rice cause he thought we did not know the rice is free. I do not understand why a restaurant waiter think three big adults will waste three small bowl of rice. I will not go to the...
Read moreMy wife and I looked around Taupo for a place to have dinner. We were feeling pretty hungry after some mountain biking. There were a number of places that looked good, but for some reason, Indian Affair took our fancy. The owner, whom we soon got to know as Gomah, met us at the door and was very friendly and welcoming. We soon got to know her husband, Om, and all the staff were just as friendly and helpful as the night progressed. We ordered a mixed platter entree, and Punjabi chicken main with some buttered naan. The mixed platter was an impressive portion of delicacies of wonderful taste. Immediately we were impressed. As for the Punjabi chicken and buttered naan they were absolutely delicious; full of flavour. The buttered naan is to die for - definitely the best we've ever had anywhere - mouth-wateringly delicious! We noted the authentic, traditional music, which was really melodic and relaxing and set the scene for a lovely evening. Rather than giving another eatery a go on our second night in Taupo, my wife and I chose to return to Indian Affair - yes, we enjoyed it that much the previous night! - and again it did not disappoint. We ordered butter chicken, just to see how it compared with previous experiences. It was divine, full of flavour, not bland and artificial as some can be, by any means, and probably the best we've tasted, ever. The buttered naan was again a go-to and did not disappoint: indeed this is a mouth-watering delicacy. Indian Affair is an absolute gem and we will definitely head there again without a doubt next visit to Taupo. Best...
