Yoko Sushi — Restaurant in North Island

Wow! Best takeaway, dine in Sushi, Japanese food shop I've seen in NZ. Great,happy,friendly staff...good tunes...clean and tidy. A real simple set up where you can pour your own miso or water. Heaps of original variety, with classics like Katsu curry, (which was a really nice home.made curry with lots of carrot, potato, pickles, ginger), Takoyaki (with decent size octopus), Nikuman (like a bao bun with meat filling). Massive Onigiri's... Serving size for Katsu curry and rice was deceivingly large, and I don't mind that we were deceived. Looks like they have a very streamlined system for staff too... The people came in numbers while we're there which shows it's a popular place for Gizzy. So happy we randomly found this place. Will share a couple of pics to give an idea. A very tidy dine in shop, and I have gone there to grab lunch- dinner 🍽, in past year's, because it's sushi was ok.

But my last weeks spend $90 for 3 adults as a birthday suprise, bit us on the proverbial butt! OMG we were the one's who were surprised at how much this salmon and chicken sushi 🍣 suxed! And the hot teriyaki chicken with mayo and soy sauce also SUXED! Hard out it was a rip! Seriously no lies! Who does dry rice in 🍣! All 6 packs, DRY AND HARD, TASTELESS! The chicken was super chewy, and tough for chicken 🐔 and tasteless aswell.

Highly recommend the Wasabi and ginger 🫚 👌 which was a pathetic amount, a half teaspoon worth of both combined in a little plastic...

This would be the best lunch service in Gisborne if you're after FAST + super FRESH! You also get a free miso soup with every order. I've had some dietary requirements lately and the amazing staff, (specifically Anushka!!) remembered me after my first visit, she comes up to me each time and asks if i'd like the same thing made up fresh, or will point out what's best suited, not making me feel high-maintenance, haha. Such a beautiful selection of Japanese (sushi to currys, steamed salmon, bento boxes, and karage etc.). It's my Gizzy go to for lunch on busy town days. Thank you...
