Columbus Coffee — Restaurant in Palmerston North

On the Labour Day, my we ordered two meals and a cup of coffee for lunch, and waited for half an hour with no food and drink. The next tables who ordered after us already got theirs. So we went to the counter to check, apparently they lost our order and some of the food we ordered already sold out. So we requested for refund. One blonde lady who has a ponytail lost her temper and started to get grumpy and yelled when we just wanted to confirm the price as we were never given a receipt. I have been in New Zealand for 20 years and my partner has been in Palmy for over 40 years. This is one of the our most terrible experience in hospitality and never met any wait staff yelled at their customers. My other friends also did not have a good experience with this Columbus Cafe as well. In general other wait staff are also laid back and unprofessional. The attitude of the waitress is unacceptable. No food and no service - does not deserve...

Nice to do some shopping at the Mega Mitre 10, then relax with a Columbus coffee. The cashier today was bored. When I asked what the triangular slice was on the special tray she said Blondie (and that is...?) so still not knowing I chose the muffin instead. It was as delicious as it looked. My companion asked for a heated brownie which arrived cold, so we sent it back for heating. The barista made an awesome job of the coffee top pattern. The tables and chairs were clean but I had to polish the marks off the fork. The paper napkin provided on the plate was tiny, dainty, and only suitable for one pat to the lips. Friendly, helpful staff, making good suggestions. Reasonable turn around on our food - although it looked like there might be a weekend lunch rush coming after us, as five or six staff were on. Well labelled cabinet food with colour coded vegetarian and 'lifestyle' options. We were able to use a few discounts (Entertainment book, Columbus loyalty card). Decent playground for the kids.
