0 stars! Horrible vibe. DONT GO HERE I am utterly dismayed and compelled to warn others about the abysmal experience we had at Fishtails, a place that has clearly plummeted from grace. This establishment, once a beacon of good food and friendly service, has nosedived into an appalling state of affairs. I was once a repeat customer. Our recent visit was a sequence of frustrations and rude encounters. Initially aiming to dine in, we were pushed towards takeaway due to unavailable seating. After an unjustifiable 30-minute wait (we were told about only after we had paid), we were further provoked by an additional 20-minute delay, despite visibly vacant tables. The zenith of this nightmarish experience was the interaction with the staff. A particularly rude counter staff member treated us with an attitude so disdainful it was shocking. Her audacity to demand extra payment for the mere request to dine in was beyond the pale. The subsequent refusal to refund our payment turned into a heated argument, showcasing an unprecedented level of unprofessionalism and contempt for customers. It is with a sense of duty that I write this review. Fishtails is a shell of its former self, marred by atrocious customer service and a blatant disregard for dining decency. My advice: steer clear of this establishment. There are plenty of other worthy options where your patronage and time will be valued.

I was quite disappointed after reading the positive reviews. The food, including butter chicken, mango chicken, and garlic naan, was well below par. While the butter chicken was passable, the mango chicken (my favorite dish) was so bland that I couldn't eat it. The naans were dry and tasted like cardboard, the cheese and garlic naan was particularly disappointing as we couldn't even find any cheese on it. For reference, we often make our own Indian at home and keep some frozen naan from the supermarket just in case we don't have the time to make it fresh which is far better than what we received. The staff's attitude was also a letdown. When my wife politely pointed out a discrepancy in the prices, the staff member dismissed us, insisting we were wrong. Despite confirming that we were indeed looking at the correct menu, they continued to argue, forcing my wife to walk away. We had already paid and made it clear we weren't seeking a refund as it was a difference of .50c more on the naan and $1 more on each of the curries on the takeaway menu. So if they bother to read this review, please check your prices.

This place is a godsend. We made an impromptu 65 KM drive down from our accommodation in Mt Cook to this restaurant in Twizel after realising there were no viable dinner options in Mt Cook, and this couldn’t have been a better decision. The food here is so good I could cry. We ordered the butter chicken ($24), the lamb shank ($28), the vegetable jalfrezi ($21), one plain naan ($4) and one cheese and garlic naan ($7) to share between the two of us. As we had just finished two walking trails on Mt Cook and it was also pretty late by the time we arrived, we were starving. The food was incredible. Every dish was amazing. The lamb shank was cooked so well and fall-off-the bone tasty. The butter chicken was creamy and delicious. The vegetable jalfrezi was, and the naans did the perfect job of soaking up the curries. We even got a serving of basmati rice to go with our curries. Service here is really good as well. The restaurant team were welcoming and gracious even though they were really busy. This is definitely a restaurant we would recommend to anyone visiting Twizel.

The waitress ruined my experience in this resto. It’s a very busy place with lots of people; but there are three six-people tables and others are all four-people tables. I was alone and when I stepped in, only six-people tables were vacant but the manager welcomed me and let me sit. But then I waited for 40 mins to be served and the resto started to get real busy. I was hurrying finishing the food so that they can clean up the table already. But when I was like half way done, the waitress came up and stood in front of my table, staring at me. She told me there’s a group of people waiting to be seated. I told her yeah I know but you don’t have to rush me cause as you can see, I am trying to finish my dish. Then she came back like as soon as I was done - literally, as soon as I put the spoon in my mouth - saying we are very busy but then you stayed here for an hour. I was trying to explain the food took 40 mins to be served, but then she just gave me the look and walked away. I told the manager how offended I was, of course he apologized, but he also kept on saying how busy the restaurant is as if I stalled the table just because I was eating slowly. The waitress obviously didn’t apologize. Actually she was chatting with another diners, laughing, while the manager was apologizing to me. How rude! NEVER GOING BACK, NEVER RECOMMEMDING THIS RESTO TO ANYONE.

Went there again to get her name so that I can file a complaint to the main branch, again, the manager apologized but she was still being rude - talking stuffs in hindi (cannot be good stuffs about me), telling me you’re disturbing us, and...
