We had the pleasure of dining here twice during our two night stay in twizel recently. We can't believe we haven't tried this place on our other visits until now!

We planned to have it as a treat for convenience on our first night and enjoyed it so much we came back tonight too.

First night we had the pork wonton, spring rolls, chicken peanut satay and lemongrass chicken

Second night we had pork wonton, fish cakes, chicken peanut satay and lamb massaman curry

The food is absolutely fantastic - the best thai we have had in the South Island (never found a place in Chch we actually really enjoy). The pictures do not do it justice - especially the stir fries as the meat is underneath what you can see in the pics. The meat portions are very good compared to most places these days.

I found the food very tailored to western tastebuds which is personally good for us, as I have been to Thailand and did not enjoy the authentic food as much because I am used to western thai food in NZ, so for me this place is perfect as it caters to the local population well.

The drink menu is limited to beer and wine but we had no trouble finding something we both enjoy - the focus here is the food which is done well.

Service was absolutely fantastic both nights. Reviews advised making a booking which we are pleased we did as this place can get quite busy and we saw a few people needing to wait for a table, there is limited seating so recommend booking.

Thank you so much for a wonderful evening both nights and we look forward to trying more of the menu next time we are...

Came on a very early evening - 5.15pm? The place only had two other customers but the boy refused to allow us to seat where we were more comfortable and rudely (raised his voice) told us to move stating that the table is reserved. Until we left, the restaurant was still empty with just another table of 5 pax.

Food is not bad, the lady whips up pretty decent Thai food.

The boy even got our orders wrong- ordered beef and he took chicken down. Later, we got our beef but didn’t seem to look like freshly prepped, probably removed the chicken pieces and replaced with the beef as the curry wasn’t piping hot when it arrived like the chicken version. The boy then took the paper out and said this is what he took down. Well that’s YOUR mistake - apologise and MOVE ON! He even asked if I want to change, well that was NOT what we ordered, duh? It’s YOUR mistake... don’t make others pay for it. Make sure you repeat your orders since you make such an obvious mistake. This absolutely is a far cry from Thai Hospitality despite he is a Thai. Seriously rude boy no wonder the reviews are mad at their service.

Portion is absolutely small, one dish is only good for one person. Because of the nice old lady from the kitchen and decent food, 2 stars it is.

They just so happen to be the only Asian in this little town so arrogant boy just can’t seem to be bothered. Seriously rude and no manners... If only the lady teach him...

We waited 15 mins to go to this place it was closed when we arrived. We have eaten at other Jasmine places before and they were great. This guy working here was very rude. We walked in with three kids no one was in the restaurant, we rang the bell, this guy came in a huff. We asked if we could order, he rudely said sit at a table with 5 persons they had a table of 6. After sitting we waited to order. He came towards the table we asked if we could order he ignored us. Then he came back, we then proceeded to ask him whether the curries came with rice he pointed at the menu and didn't say anything. The kids had not eaten it was 4.30 we were tired and hungry guy was super rude. We asked how big the portion size was he was very rude, then when we asked him if it was a small or big portion he said ill show you a plate aggressively. We then had to walk out. The kids were afraid of how this guy acted. My husband is darker skinned he believes its because the guy saw him, he was very rude, whether he is racist or not we cannot confirm...

I hope everyone will carefully consider eating in this Thai restaurant. Other restaurants around it should be a safer choice. Because the male shopkeeper here has a savage attitude and continues to force five of us to order five meals many times in a fierce tone. Even if we are the only guest in the store, and we have said many times that our two friends have eaten and they just want to accompany us to dinner and continue to travel. What's more dangerous is that when I ordered the curry and asked if it was served with rice, he kept squinting at me and my partner like a low-looking person, and he pointed to the menu with his nose and communicated without answering a word. We can't determine whether he is a racist or an equal and bad treat every guest. But compared with a female shopkeeper with a normal attitude in the store, he really made us feel disrespectful. We don't need good service, but respect should be very basic. PS. our Thai milk tea is as light as instant milk tea.

Tried their Tom Yum soup and the green curry, both served with a small portion of steam rice. Loved both the items, you could tell it was made using authentic ingredients. The portion sizes maybe questionable for the soup at $25.00. Given the price fluctuations now a days it is kind of expected that the prices would be inflated along the tourist route, however after doing an entire circuit from Christchurch to Queenstown and Te Anau, Milford sound and invercargill, dunedin etc it is safe to say that this was the most expensive Tom Yum soup in a non 5 star hotel I have ever tried. The service was good though, they check if you want the spice levels altered between mild, medium, hot and Thai hot! As someone who can handle Indian spice, we ordered Medium spice but could have easily gone for hot. Wouldn't say it was good value for money but the taste and the service along with limited options for dining in this area makes it worthwhile. Give them a go!
