Harbourside Grill — Restaurant in South Island

Wow, what a terribly disappointing experience. We walked in at peak lunch service today and only 1 other table of 2.. should have been a sign right there!

Firstly, the venue and views are phenomenal, this has the potential to be such a great place (and based on the reviews, it has been previously) but it was absolutely horrible when we were served our food after almost 1 hour of waiting!

We had to seek out the waiter to even order a drink, let alone order food. It was like the waiter had forgotten us, not from being busy and rushed off his feet.

When the food came, my 2yo son's chicken nuggets were borderline burnt in the deep fryer- he wouldn't eat them! (And he scoffs them no worries usually!) His chip portion was small.

Our food came out and the fish of the day was gurnard, it was yuck. It was grey, dry and underwhelming for panfriend fish it was certainly not.

My step dads seafood chowder was mainly clams and mussels- nothing to rave about.

Hubby had the steak- for the price it was not worth it. Steak was nice, only a small serve of chips though, no salad or veges.

My chicken burger looked promising... chicken coating was good, but seriously lacked flavour.

I don't know if there's been a recent change of ownership or chef but if I were the owner I'd be seriously looking into what was happening here especially based on the reviews in the past week. Outstanding Dining Experience at Harbourside Grill

My wife and I had the pleasure of dining at Harbourside Grill during the ANZAC long weekend, and we were absolutely delighted with our experience. From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted by their lovely staff with warm hospitality.

The service at Harbourside Grill was exceptional. The staff members were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. As it was our first visit, they made excellent recommendations regarding the combo of Starter and Main, ensuring that our dining preferences were met. We truly felt well taken care of throughout the evening.

Now, let's talk about the food. The seafood dishes at Harbourside Grill were nothing short of outstanding. We had the 'New Zealand Seafood Grill' pot, which is the show case of New Zealand seafood & shellfish. I have to say every bite was a burst of fresh flavors that showcased the quality and expertise of chefs. From the succulent grilled prawns to the perfectly seared whitefish, each dish was a true culinary delight. The presentation was impeccable, and the portion sizes were huge.

The stunning views of Dunedin harbour added an extra bonus of charm to our dining experience.

Went for a staff Christmas function, paid $35, given a very small side plate for a dinner plate, first a platter of roasted potatoes, carrots and brocolli came out. We thought a second platter would arrive for the other end of the table as it was a very long table but didnt so everyone took a very small amount and passed down to other end. We all ate our small amount and waited for quite some time and then a small bowl of pork arrived took small amount passed down to other end of table ate the pork and waited, after some time a small bowl of beef arrived so same thing posted, after finishing beef a jug of gravy arrived but we had already eaten the meat! Waited and a bowl of boiled potatoes arrived so we poured gravy on those, then a platter of tasteless salad arrived, didnt seem to have any dressing. Everyone waited for a long time expecting some sort of pudding to come out, everyone was still starving! The wait staff were gathered around the bar area drinking water and one young woman seemed to be struggling to clear dishes from several long tables by herself! We ended up piling dishes up ourselves ! Went to ask if any pudding coming and were told no. Everyone was incredulous! So still hungry went off to buy more lunch! Felt ripped off!! Would suggest no one uses this venue for group functions!!!! I felt like asking for my money back but didnt want to embarrass the poor lady who chose the venue so none of us make a fuss...
