The Tart Tin is a place my partner has been attempting to drag me to for a very long time. Unfortunately on said day I wasn't really up to eating or drinking coffee but I did notice that the cabinet was filled with some really yummy looking treats!
I even commented on how the Eclairs will filled with vanilla custard instead of plain old whipped cream. What could be me decadent than choux pastry filled with a vanilla custard ...
We had a really nice exchange with the two lovely people in the store and when I went to pick up my partners coffee they gave me an extra brown bag .... with a vanilla custard filled eclair in it!
I have to say this was one of the most generous and thoughtful acts I have encountered in a cafe in New Zealand period!
While I wasn't in the mood for food right then I took the eclair home and decided to leave it until much later to eat it.
5 minutes later - all gone!
The choux pastry was unbelievable and the vanilla custard - my darwin - light, fluffy, perfect, perfect, perfect!
As a baker and chef by trade I can honestly say I have never had an eclair of this calibre period.
To the friendly front of house team at The Tart Tin, you are wonderful human beings.
To the baker(s) don't change a thing - truly a masterpiece.
The only problem I now have is that when I go back to sample some of their other delicious looking fare will I be able to move past choosing an eclair!
Thank you again, wonderful place and my partner loved...
Read moreI hate ever giving 1 stars. But what can one say when you go in, wait for the team member on break to finish their break (which is ofcourse no problem) she tells you she’s is she on break in tone that barely disguises her annoyance (I say no problem and play on my phone) a few minutes later she then finishes said break and then a another couple walk in and she immediately serves them first knowing full well I’d been their waiting long before anyone else entered. (there was no else in this very small shop when o entered). I pointed this out, people looked bewildered, and then I walked off after telling them this is was wild way to treat someone simply trying to try your products. Someone did chase me down the road offering me a free cupcake, but I was over it by then. The lack of awareness was astounding. Basically, i felt invisible. I never tried the food so can’t attest to that sadly, I hear it’s great. Indeed - had gone out of my way to visit them cause of their great reviews, only to be ignored and leave eith a bitter...
Read moreI really loved the gentleness and the care from the staff, was happy with the table and chairs available to eat on site.
I find the size of the portions decent for the price.
Wish there were more savory choice than just the cheese scones but that wasn’t such a big deal.
However, what I regret more is that the Nutella brioche was not as fresh as I expected at 8am, it seemed like it was made the day before or had stayed uncovered in a hot place and dried out…
And the coffee was way to sour to our taste, even with milk, like burnt roasted. Not our favorite one!
Overall, I don’t regret our breakfast there and could even give it another chance, thanks to the staff’s...
