Lagonda Milk Bar — Restaurant in South Island

I went here for lunch on my way from Dunedin to Christchurch and did not have a pleasant time. I splashed out on a “smoothie” that was pretty much just a milkshake. It had a big block of ice cream in it and it was terrible and not what I ordered. My egg and bacon on toast was also terrible. They didn’t ask how I wanted it cooked so I got some sort of weirdly cooked egg on stale bread. They also served it with tomato sauce which was really weird. I asked to get my water bottle filled which the cashier was not happy about. She told me I would have had to go down the road to fill it at a bathroom. Luckily she said she had heard that tap was broken so she ended up doing it but that was unnecessarily difficult for a minor task for a customer who had just spent $40. The food was also not served in takeaway which I had asked and had to ask for that again. I don’t write reviews often but I am not in a good mood and this meal made it even worse. I was so excited for my $9 smoothing which ended up being a melted block...

Sadly, we had a bad experience. 3 of us chose a meal with sausages. So it wasn't just a one off. I know men who would be proud to have a sausage as soild as the ones we were dished up. We were given forks of course, and knives, not serrated, which didn't help us cut even a bite size pieces off our sausage. Salad was nice, chips were lovely, eggs soft and runny, but the sausage, once broken into, tasted what I'd say cardboard would taste like. No taste at all really. My hands are sore from trying to cut the sausages. Yes I ate most of mine, because I'm old school, it took a while to chew. But it was a hard out exercise for my jaw. I passed on our disappointment to managment. For me though, they'd have to use a better quality of saussge and cook them for a lesser amount of time, before I'd ask for a sausage meal from there again. Sorry no Photo. Not impressed. Five of us came here for meals. The ordering was taken on a tiny slip of paper and when our meals arrived, one of them wasn’t written down so had to order again. Of the four meals which had chips, none of us ate more than a few as they seemed off-colour, a bit dry and didn’t taste very good. While I enjoyed my fish, another of us said that one of hers was cooked differently end to end.

We were here for a while, including a second round of drinks, the drinks were nice, but the tables were never cleared during our visit.

They have a tidy looking restaurant with food in warmers and coolers, plus meals including an all day breakfast.

The group has basically stated that they wouldn’t come here again.

The place could be improved with better table service, a better, digital ordering system and improvements...
