One of the best galleries that I have ever visited, and I travel around the world. The Home Gallery Fine Arts Oamaru, was a wonderful discovery at the top of a flight of steps that led to a wonderland of art, sculpture, and Persian rugs all displayed, in what was in an earlier life, a grain store. The space in the gallery lends itself to displaying each art work so that it can be viewed without distraction. But my eye was also drawn to the rafters of the building, the enormous windows that open out to the bay, the well worn wooden floor that has seen so much, it all adds character to this amazing gallery. All credit to Lucy Gardner for her vision to finding this space, assembling an incredible array of most excellent art work. Please take the time, take the steps, and embrace the peace, the calm, the quiet and absorb the wonders of the art works that will greet you. My personal favourites are the works of Anneke Bester - sculpture; Istvan Denes - Wood sculpture; Henry Turner - Oils and Lisa...
Read moreI visited the home gallery fine arts on a sunny Monday in February of 2018. It was the best gallery that I visited so far. The enjoyment started by walking through the Harbour street. Right after entering the stunning building, you see those gorgeous staircase of an old whool industry building(hope that is right, could be used for other purposes in the past too). So you go upstairs and step into a light-flooded loft with that lovely boarded floor and amazing pieces of art. Personally, I loved the sculpture "soar" from Anneke Bester, the paintings from Blair Greig, William Moore, Lisa Wisse, Grant Whibley, Henry Turner and "the travel wardrobe" from Anne Willson. Even the look through the ceiling-high window towards the church or the ocean is worth a visit. A talk with the lady at the front desk - I think she was the gallery owner - completed the journey into that timelessly beautiful moment. I would visit the gallery again anytime! Totally recommend it...
Read moreThe Home Gallery is definitely worth a visit. Recently moved to a new location in Victorian district, close to other galleries, shops and cafes. The gallery is full of interesting paintings, photographies and other artworks made by various artists. I had very nice time talking to Lucy - the owner of the galery and author of some of the photographies displayed in the gallery. She was very knowledgeable about photography, art and art industry. The visit in Lucy’s gallery was definitely one of the highlights of my...
