Read moreTerrible experience today here. I loved this sushi place for years now but the service we got today was unacceptable. I am not one to usually leave reviews but the workers here left us waiting for over half an hour for our food that we ordered and we still waited as they looked busy and when we reminded them that I think they forgot our order because we’ve seen the order made and left on the train but not given to us we were given no apologies, only excuses and another promise of 5 minutes which had us waiting another 30 minutes of staring at the table. We had finally had enough and said we were going to leave and they can cancel the sushi order that has been taking them hours and the waitress then told us to wait only to bring two of the five sushi we ordered an hour and a half ago. We told her that she can put it back on the train and that we are leaving and this whole time we had not received a single apology for the hours we wasted completely ignored and hungry waiting for a few plates of sushi worth over $40. Absolutely ruined the night. Will not be...
Read moreHmmm, let me see where do I start. Let's start with the Pros. Service was good, staff is very friendly. The tables are cleaned pretty quickly. The chef is Japanese, well according to the note on the wall near the entrance. Cons: Price was a little too expensive and here's why. The portions are tiny. For the price that you pay, you get two small pieces of Nigiri or Sushi. I'm not saying that it's not worth the trip, but they could make the portions a little bigger...but then the prices will also go up. We can't win.
If you want a comparison, go to St Pierre's Sushi and buy the Sushi packs and the Nigiri pack. The Nigiri in Daruma is about 40-50% smaller and the Sushi is about 15-20% smaller. Of course this is a rough estimate.
How Daruma made it to the top 5 Sushi Train places in Urban List is beyond me...oh wait Auckland only has 5 Sushi Train...
