Went there on a week day around 1pm. The place was relative full but we were able to get a seat. The concierge lady at the door was friendly but this is where excellent services stopped. The cafe has an unique boxy design from the outside at the top of a hill, behind the Mitre 10. We were disappointed to be honest. The service from the watresses were average. They looked tired and lack of energy. (I get much better services from Hardware Store Mitre 10 from across the road) No smiles even when we had eye contact and smiled at them. The kitchen was fast, but they got the order wrong. And we weren't the only one, the tall lady at the reception also kept on apologising to another elder gentleman over something else etc. Food quality is good and price is ok. The coffee we ordered was really really bitter, perhaps its the quality of the beans even after adding sugar. As the service wasn't friendly, we did not ask for a replacement. Nothing really stood out when comparing this eatery to ones in Albany, Rosedal area. The car park is atrocious, uneven surface with pot holes, not safe for elderly customers - esepcially on a wetday. The uneven service is not ideal for baby prams not wheel chairs...better to drop them off closest to the building entrancr then go find a parking space. The car park is definitely a health and safety hazard and such a bad contrast to the elegant building itself. Don't bother going on weekends as waits can be longer than 30 mins and this is just for outside seat. We feel this place is over hyped/over rated and would not return again. A place to hang out and been seen I suppose but nothing about great customer experience/service. But you are welcome to give this place a go and experience it...

Read more$30 for a toastie – absolutely disgraceful
My wife visited this cafe recently. She’s pregnant and currently has a limited palate due to dietary restrictions, so she was genuinely happy to see a simple cheese and ham toastie listed on the kids menu. She asked if the kitchen could swap the ham for bacon and add a little tomato and avocado. The waitress said these could only be ordered as full-priced sides, which felt odd given it was going into a single sandwich. Still, my wife clarified she only needed a couple of tomato slices, a bit of avocado, and one strip of bacon – nothing excessive. She assumed there would be a small added cost.
The sandwich came with a side salad, which she couldn’t eat anyway due to pregnancy safety. But credit where it’s due – the toastie itself was excellent.
Then came the bill. They charged her $30 for the toastie. The kids toastie was $8.50. That means they slapped on over $21 in extra charges to add a few small ingredients and swap one for another. Apparently, they charged full price for each side: $7 for bacon, $6 for avocado, and $6 for “roasted tomatoes” – even though she didn’t order a side of anything, just asked for them in the sandwich. No effort to be flexible, no care taken, and no warning about the ridiculous cost.
Charging $30 for a toastie is almost theft. It cost more than any other meal on the menu. Inclufing a full sized breakfast or a wagyu beef burger! To take advantage of a customer like that, especially one with dietary needs due to pregnancy, is pathetic. This place seriously needs to review how it handles custom orders and stop hiding behind “sides” pricing to...
