Went there on a week day around 1pm. The place was relative full but we were able to get a seat. The concierge lady at the door was friendly but this is where excellent services stopped. The cafe has an unique boxy design from the outside at the top of a hill, behind the Mitre 10. We were disappointed to be honest. The service from the watresses were average. They looked tired and lack of energy. (I get much better services from Hardware Store Mitre 10 from across the road) No smiles even when we had eye contact and smiled at them. The kitchen was fast, but they got the order wrong. And we weren't the only one, the tall lady at the reception also kept on apologising to another elder gentleman over something else etc. Food quality is good and price is ok. The coffee we ordered was really really bitter, perhaps its the quality of the beans even after adding sugar. As the service wasn't friendly, we did not ask for a replacement. Nothing really stood out when comparing this eatery to ones in Albany, Rosedal area. The car park is atrocious, uneven surface with pot holes, not safe for elderly customers - esepcially on a wetday. The uneven service is not ideal for baby prams not wheel chairs...better to drop them off closest to the building entrancr then go find a parking space. The car park is definitely a health and safety hazard and such a bad contrast to the elegant building itself. Don't bother going on weekends as waits can be longer than 30 mins and this is just for outside seat. We feel this place is over hyped/over rated and would not return again. A place to hang out and been seen I suppose but nothing about great customer experience/service. But you are welcome to give this place a go and experience it for yourself.

Nice place? Yes n No. Overheard this place from a colleagues of mine, so went there and gave it a try. First impression at the entrance is very nice and trendy. Brand new place with outdoor seatings, even a playground for kids, my little one loved it, very kind with the owner. So we went in, cafe layout is great! Massive screen on the wall with nice sections and seating options. We had a look to the cabinet food for dessert (we had lunch prior), and lined up to order. Noticed tables are generally not wiped down, they might just finished a hectic service. Talked to the staff at counter, no emotion displayed, had to repeat orders a couple of times, where later on we got wrong stuff delivered to our table. Coffee is loose warm, chocolate berry cake isn’t the most fresh tasting. A bit turned down, considering the effort they made to the place. Staff are not prepared I guess, can tell that they are a bit unfamiliar with the work. Will come back and try the meal once before saying anything more I guess. But colleague didn’t recommend after they had meals there. But I will find out myself. :)

We did not have an enjoyable experience at Fields Cafe. We were originally sat at a table adjacent to the register and the space was so tight that we had people bumping against our table. We asked to be moved which they kindly allowed when another table opened up. Service was... shocking. Ordered a long black with a side of hot water - server came back after the order to confirm I didn’t say hot milk. Coffee was delivered with hot milk. The coffee was also spilled upon delivery which detracted from its presentation (see photo). We ordered a banana cake with caramel icing but were delivered a chocolate cake with nuts. We had already cut it open before realizing so we decided not to return it. Staff did not visit our table during the time we were there and had to be waved down. Water was spilled when pouring by the younger server at our table. You can tell the staff have attempted to be trained (for example, they serve water with one arm behind their back) but they are definitely inexperienced and it ultimately detracted from the afternoon. We won’t be returning.

Fields Cafe provides a truly enchanting atmosphere that instantly captivates you upon entering. The charming ambiance, with its warm lighting and cozy decor, creates a welcoming and comfortable space to enjoy a meal. The waitstaff, who are not only friendly but also exude an undeniable charm, add an extra touch of warmth to the dining experience.

Now, let's dive into the culinary offerings at Fields Cafe. While the menu boasts a variety of dishes, it's important to note that taste preferences can vary from person to person. Some patrons have found certain dishes to be absolutely delightful, with their flavors bursting in every bite. The carefully crafted combinations of ingredients and the attention to detail in presentation truly shine through. Actually, the cabinet section was great and very varied. I do not know what turbo 91 was talking about they are very wrong. 🤓😏

However, it's worth mentioning that there have been a few instances where some dishes fell short of expectations. Taste is subjective, and what may not appeal to one person might be adored by another. It's always best to explore the menu and discover your own personal favorites.

Despite any minor shortcomings in the culinary department, Fields Cafe's ambiance and the friendly nature of the waitstaff make it a place worth visiting. It's an ideal spot to unwind, catch up with friends, or simply enjoy a quiet moment alone. The overall experience is elevated by the attentive and attractive waitresses who go above and beyond to ensure your visit is memorable.

So, while there may be room for improvement in certain aspects of the menu, Fields Cafe's charming atmosphere and delightful service make it a destination...

$30 for a toastie – absolutely disgraceful

My wife visited this cafe recently. She’s pregnant and currently has a limited palate due to dietary restrictions, so she was genuinely happy to see a simple cheese and ham toastie listed on the kids menu. She asked if the kitchen could swap the ham for bacon and add a little tomato and avocado. The waitress said these could only be ordered as full-priced sides, which felt odd given it was going into a single sandwich. Still, my wife clarified she only needed a couple of tomato slices, a bit of avocado, and one strip of bacon – nothing excessive. She assumed there would be a small added cost.

The sandwich came with a side salad, which she couldn’t eat anyway due to pregnancy safety. But credit where it’s due – the toastie itself was excellent.

Then came the bill. They charged her $30 for the toastie. The kids toastie was $8.50. That means they slapped on over $21 in extra charges to add a few small ingredients and swap one for another. Apparently, they charged full price for each side: $7 for bacon, $6 for avocado, and $6 for “roasted tomatoes” – even though she didn’t order a side of anything, just asked for them in the sandwich. No effort to be flexible, no care taken, and no warning about the ridiculous cost.

Charging $30 for a toastie is almost theft. It cost more than any other meal on the menu. Inclufing a full sized breakfast or a wagyu beef burger! To take advantage of a customer like that, especially one with dietary needs due to pregnancy, is pathetic. This place seriously needs to review how it handles custom orders and stop hiding behind “sides” pricing to...
