Best place in the Shore for yum cha at the moment. Siew mai and har gow are big with no fatty bits unlike some other restaurants. Very nice fancy environment, fast service once seated but you do have to wait a bit to get a table during busy lunch periods. Take a number, select your dishes while waiting and once seated, hand your filled out orders and viola, your dishes is served not long after.
Food quality is good for NZ standards. We spent $120 for 10 dim sum dishes for 4 pax.
Wait staff and senior bosses are very attentive to queries when approached.
Only thing would make things better if their servings are in lots of 4 instead of 3 servings for some dishes. Tea is expensive in that every hot water top up is counted too ($2/top up)
Edit: Came here for dinner. Some dishes were very good; the rest were just average. Stand out dish was the roasted pork belly (siew yoke). It is hands down the best siew yoke I've eaten in NZ and everyone else on my table of 10 agreed. The let down is their service was super slow and the dishes were served in a staggered manner. This kills the momentum and fun in eating as we'd be nibbling on one dish while waiting for the next one which comes 10-15 minutes later. Wait staff apologised profusely and were very courteous throughout. However, it still affected the eating experience. Price was reasonable at $26 pp for dinner. Cheaper than...
Read moreWe had high expectations after a recommendation from a friend and reading good reviews but the evening did not start well when there was confusion over our booking for 6 and we were seated at a round table for 12 which limits conversation! When each of 7 dishes came few bore any resemblance to the glossy photos online or in the menu, especially the duck and pork mixed platter. The duck was full of bone and the plate was a lot smaller than advertised. The prawns looked terrific but were soaked in a garlic sauce which most disliked. The least impressive dish was the “Signature special House noodles ‘which were identical to the curly noodles found in packets in the supermarket. Awful! The lemon chicken looked great but was way too sweet with little citrus tang. Most disappointing was the spicy chicken and vegetables. The chicken was small bony chunks which had been deep fried. Sorry but maybe it was a bad busy Saturday night perhaps? Perhaps the restaurant is not completely to Western taste? We note that most of the reviews appear to be from others. It was certainly well populated so is very much liked by its clientele as the huge car park was all but full. I suspect that the Yum Char would be a different proposition and the big upside is...
Read moreAlways with hope when something new open, however disappointing. High studs ceiling spacious interior decor etc … but food were totally disappointing, it’s not traditionally hand made HK GZ style dim sum dishes, it’s ok if that’s not what you after. Dim sum came out FAST and NOT HOT. The COLD bamboo steamers gave away the idea on how they preparing their dim sum dishes. Rice rolls just warm (found a hair, told the waitress, she took the hair out in front of us and said; 刚刚剪的时候没有头发的… … ) I wonder how did they trained their waiting staffs ….. prawn pork siu mai got FAT pork in there … we ordered 3 types of buns (bao) 真的夠實正了 guess they just decided to make non fluffy type of bao. Oh, the beef stir fried RICE noodle … taste exactly like noodle (photo) oh, they use tea bag style for their teas …. Tea taste faded after 3-4 water refills… where’s the tea leaves?!?! Cos we pretty thirsty as we dine… Oh well, guess my expectations was just too high on this place. Their pricing it’s just normal market pricing for a normal dim sum places in Auckland. But hey, missing the most important part …. the steaming part …. just like market style precook dim sum in Malaysia...
