Hello all. Tonight (Waitangi day) we had decided to come to the Star and Garter for dinner. Unfortunately, our experience was not good at all. First my niece got stuck in one of the toilet stalls. The door would not unlock. My aunt tried to seek help from the staff to no success. 2 patrons ended up helping by stacking a bar stool on a chair to stand on and pull my niece over the door. As dangerous as this was there was no otherway. Secondly, there was no cutlery. I ordered the seafood chowder and went up to the bar to ask for cutlery the bartender told me there wasn't any left. What was I meant to do slurp my chowder? Fortunately, one spoon was eventually found however the remaining 6 people on our table had to eat by hand. Lastly, my partner ordered the chicken burger with no pineapple. The waitress served his burger repeating his order of no pineapple. To his disappointment there was pineapple in his burger . I have no doubt that this place does well due to the amount of people. But we had one too many unfortunate events for me to...
Read moreWe ate here two nights in a row during an early May visit to the Coromandel Peninsula. The historic 2-story building is the star of the business district, for sure, a charmingly restored old place that is very popular with tourists and locals alike. We sat at a table by the bar and ordered Tuatara hazy IPAs and the 309 pizza: pulled pork, smoked bacon, apples and apple syrup, which was quite tasty. I also ordered a glass of Brookfields Syrah, which was delicious. The pizza, beer, service, and ambience were all so good that we changed our original plan to go to a different place the 2nd night. We came back here instead and ordered another pizza, the Buffalo Road, which had brisket, smoked bacon, onions, mushrooms, and chipotle aioli. It was yummy! More beer, more wine, more Banoffee,...
Read moreRarely write reviews but felt the need to tonight as 2 of the 3 female bartenders were very rude and dismissive. They were friendly and polite to other locals so I'm unsure if it's an issue with tourists or not but they made me feel very unwelcome ...pointing to the till with no please or thank you - not the same treatment as I saw with other customers. As someone who worked in bars and restaurants for over 10 years I found their attitude extremely disrespectful. The pub is lovely and the previous night I did not experience the same treatment so presumably it's the staff on the night. Given the lack of pubs in the town doubt it will make a difference bu I wouldn't want others to feel hostility the same way I did for absolutely no...
