Food is quite salty. The cold jellyfish was unevenly flavoured, like some pieces were extremely salty and others had no flavour at all. There was also a lot of water in it which should've been drained first. The peking duck doesn't taste as good as it used to. The fried tofu had some sauce at the bottom which I found weird because it made the tofu soggy instead of crispy. One of the staff spilt water over one of our guests when taking the cabbage leaves dish away. Didn't notice or apologise. For the price it's not worth it at all. You can definitely get better elsewhere.

We came here to celebrate dad's birthday yesterday. The best Peking Duck in Auckland! It's not too oily and very crispy. My husband never tried a peking duck before but he enjoyed it, the sauce, the pancake, the vegetables were all perfect! Other dishes were nice too, I don't normally like beef but their Black Pepper Beef was amazing, they're so generous with the sauce, the meat was tender and jucy. My favourite was definitely the Sweet and Sour Fish, the coating was crispy, not too sour, not too sweet, perfect! The servers were very polite and friendly.

hmmmm not really expecting much on the place as we didn't ordered the duck which is supposedly their star dish unfortunately they only had a whole duck so we can't really do that as we wanted to try the rest first the crispy pork is not crispy at all it was drenched in oil and tasted old the hot and sour soup was ok I had better once the sesame prawn was nothing special too the service though we're pretty good and that makes the star it's nice to try but definitely not worth coming back

Went there last night with 3 of my friends and 1 was late, after we ordered 4 dishes with the waitress/owner, she asked me whether we want the meal to be served now or wait for my other friend, of cause i said please wait till my last friend arrived, then the food suddenly served, I told the waiter(male) that my friend has not arrived yet, then the waitress/owner walked out, at the end I let them leave it on my table. We ordered 4 dishes and only 3 arrived, we finished all 3 dishes already and asked the waitress/owner that the last dish has not arrived/ made then please cancel it, first instance response was "It ii already in the process of making it right now in the kitchen", I said NO!!, go and check now, I was standing outside the kitchen and heard their conversation between herself and the chef, they have missed the order and adv customer wants to cancel, after 4 mins, the dish came to my table, i told waitress/owner, we have cancelled it already, she said it was being made already and all ingredients were prepared which just need to toss in the wok, i replied i own restaurant too, do not give me this non sense, waitress/owner said: "it is not a problem, i will take it home and eat myself", just to push all responsibility to us, seriously, if you make a mistake then admit it, seriously, not going back again, your restaurant might be popular but the way you do business...

I've lived in Herne Bay now for sixteen years, and another couple of years whilst I complete postgraduate studies, becoming a world published Author, whilst settling too long overdue legal claims before immigrating to Europe and marrying first time in my early 50s. My worldrankìng University of Auckland Arts degree included papers: Chinese contemporary media Grade A Hong Kong Cinema B plus Going to this exceptional Empress Garden Restaurant is applying my University degree to everyday life. I've yet to travel to China on a small Wendy Wu tours. The main dish I recommend here is: Shredded duck with combination vegetables $28.50. It us simply the most delicious, freshly cooked main Chinese meal I've eaten. The Empress Garden Restaurant collective theme:"served Emperor", and I met Chinese Revolutionary Chairman Mao in most recent past lifetime visiting China from Russia. Chinese ancient wisdom, history, astrology and Feng Shui is not to be underestimated. A lot of small groups regularly dine here as the lunch and dinner Buffett is scrumptious food, freshly cooked, exceptional staff, atmosphere. Highly...

Arrived at 5:30pm and we were greeted rudely by a disgruntled lady asking us if we had a booking. I quickly said no. With no reaction or reply she led us to a table for two (bear in mind the restaurant is not busy at this stage). We got told to take our time choosing off the menu but she would be back in 2min to take our order. Our mains came out staggered which was strange as we only ordered two things. People that ordered and arrived after us got their entire order first. I have had salted chilli prawns from Canton and Flourishing which id rate much higher on flavour and portion size than here. We had x2 entrees and two mains with NO beverages and the order came to $85.00. Pretty pricey, giving the portion sizes were small compared to any other Chinese place ive been. ($30 for literally x15 deep fried prawns.)

I think I'll leave this one...
