Had a very unpleasant experience tonight with Huckle & Co. When we placed our order we asked for a piece of gluten free fish and a piece of crumbed fish, the order went through fine and told the wait was around 25 minutes. We waited a total of over 45 minutes which was very irritating and much longer than told. When our order was finally ready and we went up to the counter we were told that there was no gluten free fish so they just gave us extra regular fish. This is completely unacceptable as they had 45 minutes to tell us that there was no gluten free fish, this should not have been left to the very end when we picked up the order, extra regular fish is not a fair substitute nor was it wanted. We had ordered gluten free for a reason as there was a gluten allergy within the group. We were told a refund could be given which was fine but nothing else was done to compensate for the time this took and the complete disregard for the gluten free fish. When we finally sat down to eat we realised the fish given to us was battered and not crumbed even after specifically asking for crumbed. Not only that but the chips were extremely overcooked and just tasted like oil. Not impressed at all and very...
Read moreBeen there once before and the food was great, pricey for fish n chips but worth it. Had the family (5 of us in total) over for our Sunday dinner and decided to do something a little special instead. Racked up an $80 bill but that was okay, I expected good things and thought everyone would be pretty happy that night. Unfortunately the food was subpar, portion sizes were decent (burgers were huge, though dry and incorrect. Both burgers were Hawaiian which I didn't ask for, with the add ons I asked for, still got charged though) but it was either soggy and/or flavourless. I don't know if they do it usually but the fish came with a whole lot of bits of batter too that were dumped over the fish, like they'd just gathered all the bits and pieces in the fryer that were left over after a few hours. If I'm going to spend that kind of money on fish n chips the quality better be something damn good. It wasn't even good. Won't be going back again, to say I was disappointed is an...

Order: Supper for 1 - Tarakihi and half a scoop of chips with salad + Battered Sausage Cost: $31
They dished me 3 smallish fillets which was plenty for 2 TBH. The fish was fresh as and was melt in your mouth material complimented by a crunchy golden shell. There was a slight issue though where the fillets held a lot of oil and where not only oily to the touch, but essentially overwhelmed the taste of fish and probably attributed to its textural integrity.
The battered sausage was good but like the fillets, it too was overly greasy, but it’s taste was not as overwhelmed by the oil.
The chips were great with the classic putter bite and the soft pillowy centre. The half scoop was a decent portion.
There was a lot going on with the leafy salad which has no place next to fish n chips! Coleslaw is the only acceptable salad lol
Despite the high recommendations for this place, I gotta say the overall portions were above average but the overall experience...
