A group of 4 of us popped in for dinner over the long weekend... First order was drinks, cocktails. 6 of the drinks on the cocktails list had mint in them, the establishment had no mint, so 6 cocktails couldn't be made🙄. Next was food, 1x chowder as a starter followed by a mushroom (w/ bacon and chicken) pasta.... 1x dumplings with Vietnamese dipping sauce, 1x chicken Laksa and 1x sirloin steak. This 1 star review is because of the following.... The pasta main was served BEFORE the chowder starter🙄 when I asked the waitress where the chowder was she replied...."its coming I only have one pair of hands". I had to remind her I ordered it as my starter! (chowder mains and starters are the same size) the pasta went under the warmer while the chowder that eventually arrived was being picked thru... The chowder had 2 mussels (in the shell) and some maranara mix🤷♂️ with a couple shrimp and alot of white sauce.... The chowder sauce was tasty, just lacked decent properly cooked seafood, (overcooked / rubbery). The pasta main, (by the time I received it), was warmed to the point where the mushrooms, bacon and chicken were almost fully dehydrated. The pasta was very average, the sauce was "nice". The dumplings (vietnamese) were served raw, and with a soy sauce (not vietnamese & confirmed by the waitress). The Laksa was great, and tasty. The Steak (sirloin) was a very small portion, 150gms if that. These orders simply didn't fit the prices on the menu. For those sorts of prices you'd expect better standards and the chef to understand the difference between starters and mains😬 As we walked out we did see lovely meals being enjoyed by...
Read moreWe were staying at a B&B, and this restaurant was recommended. We ended up pulling up, luckily we parked on the street on the way because as we walked up there was no parking available in their small lot.
The mirrored doors leading into the place was different.
We walked in and there were a few patrons, mostly drinking or playing billiards in the back. A staff member finally came out of the back and took a guy at the bar order. We were then seated after he was finished.
We ordered the fish and chips and the lamb shank. I assumed the lamb shank would be tender, fall off the bone. But it was tough. Didn't taste particular fresh, but then again I am not a normal lamb eater. I was not a fan. Barely any shallot taste or shallots. Found what looked like to be a regular onion slice. The green beans were canned or frozen, or they were parboiled before hand.
The fish and chips came with a small salad. No malt vinegar, only white vinegar that the other server brought out. Husband liked their tartar sauce and tomato with his fish. The fish tasted really fishy, which fish should not taste fishy, it should taste like the sea/ ocean. It should be a fresh flavor, not a lingering fish taste.
Staff were friendly and the fireplace was warm. The food,...
Read moreAbsolutely great place to catch up with friends for lunch on a Sunday afternoon... nice and warm, good friendly service, reasonable prices and delicious food, oh good variety of food on the menu too. Cheers
It's been a while since I last came... Very busy tonight, Friday night the place was pumping. Fortunately we had booked for dinner. Still good friendly service, reasonable prices, and delicious food. We had 2 different waiter's serve our table, as pleasant as they were, they hadn't been trained well in knowing all of the menu. We asked them how the Fish of the Day was cooked...both didn't know. Both went to find out, but only one came back with the answer. At some point during the evening, several raffles prizes were announced...it would have been great if they had let all customers know they were selling raffles, we would definitely have liked the chance to win meat pack prizes. We were served at the bar, and at our table, and no one mentioned raffle sales. They have off street parking for about 15 vehicles, but unfortunately no mobility...
