DON'T BOTHER EATING AT WLG RESTAURANT , WAY TO SLOW!
Stay in the hotel room was ok, You can hear the next room speaking/TV noise from the electrical socket beside the bed. noted on this stay tea making has no light in the cupboard, unlike the better rooms.
WLG - don't bother going to the restaurant if you expect a meal in a timely fashion. and honestly, the menu is way over priced for the quality of the meals!
Having sat down at 6 pm I ordered at about 610pm once a colleague joined me, ordering the same main dish as the table beside me, who sat at 605pm roughly and ordered straight away. this guest had received his meal and ate and left by 635ish, while I still was waiting to see any food at 650pm. I hadn't had any more interaction from the waiting staff in 30 minutes since ordering. At this point, I got up and told the waiting staff to not bother with my meal as 40 mins was too slow! I left to meet with colleagues till 900pm, somewhat grumpy and hungry.
Returning still hungry and with diminishing options, I ordered room service at the restaurant greeting desk. The WLG burger, a garden salad and a dessert. The kitchen sadly has no pride in the products they produce (whether is the slow service or poor product sent to room service for an already unhappy customer) The bun was blackened and the bacon with blackened edges) The crinkle chips are often pretty dried out and cold be the time they arrive at table
This was the 3rd stay within the last couple of months, now our travelling team and WLG team would have all eaten ( 5 people total) but from the first two stays it had been noted how slow dinner service was, whether you dined in WLG or Peloton bar. So the hotel is losing money due to the poor service. And after this stay, we will likely look to stay and dine elsewhere if travelling to Wellington.
And just to top off the stay, on check out, I was refused a copy of the bill, ie wanted to ensure the bill was correct because the staff never asked to confirm the charges, which were being charged back via the travel agent. Further added insult...
Read moreI manage in hospitality so this review comes from a good place, but seriously management really needs to take a few hours and spend some quality time in training staff. It began with staff clearly not being guided, they were not confident, not pleasant and it seems like no one knew really what was going on with tables, menus or how to take orders. Sadly our service and food didn’t get better through the night, at one point I was tempted to run service from my table as it seemed that there was no service sections or any maitre d’ that I could identify. I understand and welcome tricks to slow down service for kitchen to shuffle out meal dockets and feed through but this was next level amateur for basic food. My mom had to clear our tables and call main away for our pre ordered desserts to which a staff member finally came to our table and apologised for the complication for the night. I feel sorry for the staff and perhaps he should go back and apologise to them for letting them sink or swim during a Sunday...
Read morePositive: Food was super lovely. Expensive but yum.
Negative: I found it strange that the “Bar” side of the restaurant has more typical bar food whilst the other half has a very limited and expensive restaurant style menu. I wouldn’t normally have an issue with this however staff didn’t notify our group of this and we were ushered into the expensive side with no information provided regarding the differing menus etc. It didn’t sit right with me that staff didn’t give us an informed decision to pick between the two, and only realised that there was more bar style food as I saw it leaving the kitchen. When I asked a staff member, she explained the process well, but I don’t understand why they didn’t tell us this off the bat? You can’t also order any of the cheaper more accessible bar food on the restaurant half (Burgers etc).
My expectation would be that you inform your customers of this on entry and let them decide instead of just ushering them into the “Expensive area”. That just feels a...
