There are mixed reviews for this steak house. It seems customers either love it or feel the service or prices are not on par with expectations. I had a very pleasant experience and felt the prices were more than reasonable for the quality of the food and service. I was hungry on a Tuesday evening, so I went all in on the 16 oz Fileta Don Bernardo for only $32! Two drinks, two meals with an appetizer including local tax, and 10% gratuity ran about $85. Pricey by local standards, maybe. However, this would have cost more than twice that amount stateside. The steak was an excellent quality cut of meat. My only complaint was that it was undercooked for my taste. I requested Medium, and it bordered on Medium Rare or Rare in some spots. The steak was very thick but soft and flavorful. It almost melted in your mouth. I'm guessing it isn't ordered often, and an inexperienced chef must have miscalculated cooking time. Even though it wasn't cooked to my liking, I went with it, and I still enjoyed the quality and flavor of the meat. It was truly excellent. So, all things considered, I believe El Zaguán is a must try dining experience for visitors, especially for those with...
Read moreNice meal ruined by scam on the bill. We ordered the fish ceviche (which is $8 USD) on the menu. Our waiter recommended the ceviche mixto (mixed fish and shrimp), although it was not menu. We agreed to switch to the mixto and had our meal. When the bill came there was an $18 USD charge on the bill for the Ceviche Mixto. When I asked about it they claimed that because they added the shrimp, the price was increased from $8 to $18. For clarity this was not a double portion of ceviche, this is a single portion with 1/2 fish and 1/2 shrimp. Having it mixed does not justify increasing the price of the dish by 225%. This is a pathetic scam that is used to overcharge gringos. This was a nice meal and I would have recommended this restaurant to other people visiting Grenada, but El Zaguán is only interested in making a quick buck off of tourists instead of operating with integrity. Don't support this restaurant, they don't deserve your business....
Read moreLong time resident of Nicaragua and have been wanting to try this place. Sadly, it was very disappointing. The main issue was pricing for what you get. There are tons of restaurants in Granada with equal elegance but have better service, ambience, and give you twice the food with more quality at half the price. They brought one slice of bread as a starter for the two of us. The charcuterie was sad — just basic Pricesmart cheese and when they said prosciutto they put sliced ham and for salami the put pepperoni (the kind for pizza). I was served a steak with a literal half a potato and an eighth of a plantain, nothing else. My glass of wine was a short pour, not more than 3 oz, and was $8 ( I know the wine they were selling and that’s the cost of the whole bottle). The only thing that was any good was the New York steak itself, but I’ve had better at half that price...
