We were pleasantly surprised and very pleased with our stay at Casa Consulado. The friendly and helpful employees were the highlight. Would definitely stay here again.||Pros:||The rooms. Ours was very comfortable, large, and beautifully decorated. The huge shower was supplied with quality soap, shampoo, and conditioner. The refrigerator was a nice surprise. The beds were comfy.||Common areas. There are plenty of seating areas and places to lounge and relax if you don’t want to stay inside your room. The pool is large, clean and a nice way to cool off on a hot day.||The amazing staff. From the moment we arrived until the time we departed every member of the staff was kind and helpful. Everyone from the front desk reception employees to the house keeper passing us in the hallway smiled and said hello. They were helpful and did everything they could to assist us with plans and any requests we had. They arranged laundry service, printed a map and helped us locate different places, arranged a taxi to our next location, and answered our many questions.||Location. Step out onto the street, look to your right and you will see the beautiful yellow cathedral on the square about two blocks away. The hotel is located in a safe and convenient area.||Cons:||Potable water. Or lack of potable water. No drinking water is supplied which to me was a huge deal and the reason they did not get five stars. During check in we asked where we could fill our water bottles and were given directions to a super market. We were hot and tired and just wanted to have a dip in the pool and a nap. But instead we had to go back out into the heat to walk two blocks to a store to purchase a gallon of water to keep in our room. This was the only hotel in Nicaragua that we stayed in that didn’t provide any drinking water. For the price of the room at the very least they should have at least a couple of bottles of water in the room, but really they should have water available to refill the bottles we had brought with us.||Lack of privacy for bathroom. There is a door for the toilet, but the shower, sink and dressing area were open to the room. Probably not an issue for most, but if you would like a little privacy it could be challenging.||Breakfast. A typical Nica breakfast is included, and it was just okay. Not bad, but not great. Lots of room for improvement, maybe even add just a little fresh fruit or maybe a...
Read moreWe LOVED our stay at Hotel Casa del Consulado. It took us weeks of researching where to stay for our 4 nights in Granada, we even emailed back and forth with the hotel and they were so nice answering all of our questions. We couldn't be happier with our choice. They picked us up from the Managua airport late on Thursday night (they have an easy to find Hotel Casa del Consulado SUV and the driver had a sign with our names, our flight arrived early, but he was already there waiting for us). It's location is perfect and truly a beautiful hotel with a luscious garden courtyard and pool. The courtyard was so relaxing one night we got takeout to eat there instead of sitting in a restaurant. Our room (Room Oro) was HUGE, on the second floor with a private balcony. Most importantly, the A/C was great which was crucial when we went--it was very hot in early March. The staff really make this hotel great, all of them were so nice and accommodating. Most speak a little english, we felt bad our spanish was so poor. They assisted us on multiple occasions with booking taxis and tours. If you stay here, definitely don't worry about booking tours in advance! We wanted to arrange our activities depending on how we felt that day instead of being tied to a plan and we couldn't have done it without the staff. We were very happy with all of the tours they arranged for us (and our requests were even very last minute!). They were very knowledgeable about the area and recommendations. Someone is also at the front desk 24/7 if you need anything. HIGHLY recommend Hotel Casa del Consulado for your...
Read moreWARNING: Don’t book here – shady management
I booked a room here, my credit card was charged right away, but then 5 days later the hotel wrote me to tell me the room had already been taken by somebody else. However, they assured me I would get a prompt refund.
Several days later I contacted them to enquire where my money was, and they asked for my bank details and wondered if I had a bank account in Miami (I don’t live in Miami). When I was in Granada I showed up at the hotel in person demanding a refund. The manager said “it’s complicated” and went on to claim that my card had never been charged in the first place.
I had to show them my bank statement with the charges and threaten them with a chargeback before I was finally handed a check, five minutes before leaving Granada, conveniently. Of course I didn’t have time to wait in line at the bank! I bet they were disappointed when I managed to cash the check elsewhere in Nicaragua.
If I hadn’t been on the ground, spoken Spanish and spent a whole day fighting with them, I probably wouldn’t have gotten my money back, and it certainly put a damper on my holiday!
This could easily happen to you. I...
