This is a great place to come for traditional Norwegian food. It's also a fun place to come eat or drink with friends. Their outdoor seating faces out towards Parkveien and has plenty of space. The waiters have a ton of work so they can be a little stressed but I don't blame them! 2 floors and an outdoor area makes for a lot of traffic! I have always been happy with the food here. The warm meals are especially great, and I love their chèvre salad. Traditional and hearty meals, normally with large portions. Their Norwegian Christmas food is really good! Drink selection is great. 225 different beers on the menu! Tons of antique decorations indoors! Almost like a little gallery 😄 I appreciate that they continue to serve a mini menu of sandwiches, fish & chips and burgers between 23:30-02:30 Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday! Perfect during/after a night out...although I must admit the late night food I've had here has not been great. For their regular menu, your best bet is to order by 23 (23:15 latest).

We were in Oslo at the end of November. The concierge at the hotel recommended us this restaurant for local food. Pinnekjott, cured lamb ribs, is the specialty. Lamb ribs are salted and dried. It has that particular taste like in many other conserved food. After immersing the ribs in water to release the salt, it will be cooked/ steamed over a wood rack. Served with a sausage, mashed potato and boiled potatoes. It was very heavy. The way they serve the food is strange: for each order you received 2 servings, first the bigger portion, then upon request, a smaller second portion. The price is the same no matter you want the second serving or not. It’s the same in the other restaurants. The local draft beer that we ordered was a bit dark, it tasted very well. People, both customers and waiters, were very pleasant. Interior was fantastic. I was told that it was run by the same for more than 60 years. The restaurant is over 100 years old. I definitely would like to try the other Norwegian specialties there.

Had lunch here in January after abandoning our walk due to heavy rain. My initial impression when we entered was that it looked warm and inviting. However that was almost instantly reversed when we were left standing in the doorway by an older waitress with glasses who, when I asked for a table for two, refused to welcome us in, and insisted very rudely on repeating from several metres away, 'you want to eat?' She then indicated with a shrug that we could take a table next to the door or further inside. She didn't move when we sat down but stood watching us till another waiter brought us the menu. We each chose burgers: one beef, and one vegan 'Beyond Burger'. The fries were fresh and delicious and my burger and the accompanying sides were good. However, the bun the burger came in was very flimsy and dry and kept tearing, and there was far too much lettuce. For dessert I had the Legendary apple cake. It was quite heavy on the cinnamon which I liked, but lacking apples and a decent apple flavour, and was quite dry and sandy in texture. Maybe that was how it was supposed to be (and the ice-cream, whipped cream and berries served with it helped make it more palatable) but it was not to my taste, and in no way legendary. Based on our experience I'm not sure i would recommend this restaurant. The decor is great and the menu seems decent, but the food we had was average and the service hit and miss. Though we chose to ignore it, the dismissive treatment we received from that first waitress was off-putting, particularly when we noticed she was very nice to customers of her own generation and race. The service we received from two other servers was good.

The food was really something special this time of year with the Christmas menu. I chose to have the sheep's head with sausage which is really unique; looks underwhelming but tastes amazing. Enjoyed a Norwegian desert, multe krem, made of cloud berry and is tasteful and light. My wife chose the Christmas Plate which consisted of pork ribs, minced pork fat and sausage. If you come during the Christmas season you MUST HAVE RESERVATIONS for dinner time or you can forget about eating anything but fast food. We ate here on a slow day, Sunday night, and had to make the reservation three days in advance and I think the hostess felt bad for us and squeezed us in. Plan way ahead and this is what we spent: Two meals and two drinks with a desert was 1800 NOK.

Although food was nice, the service and attitude of staff were extremely terrible. We were constantly being ignored from start to finish. It took us almost half an hour to order despite all the eye contact we had made and it took us quite a good while to get our bill. On top of that, there were a lot of empty tables at the back of the restaurant, yet we were told that there were none and we were all squeezed at a temporary table right in front of the main entrance... Diners should also note that there're summer and winter menus, hence you shouldn't always refer to pictures travellers uploaded. Totally recommend if you wish to spend your krones on terrible service.

Awful awful awful. I rarely ever leave a bad review because I know it damages businesses and I like to remain positive but this place is an absolute tourist trap. The food is awful, oily and not served hot. It tastes less than average. The service is not good at all and the prices are far too high for the quality! New owners or head chef could turn this fascinating location into a brilliant restaurant but for now - AVOID AVOID AVOID! Check how much oil was left in some half eaten "bolognese" the building is beautiful and eclectic but if you are a tourist like we are do yourself a favour and spend your precious time and money trying some delicious food instead
