We came to Lorry a couple of nights ago after reading good reviews online. It was our last night in Norway and our friend's birthday. We were a group of 4, two males and two females. We had booked a table online and it was heavily snowing the days we were in Norway, so we had boots and warm coats on When we arrived we were quickly shown to our table. We had the feeling of being quite dismissed by the waiter and wondered if it was because we had dressed warmly as one group we had seen when we were walking through the restaurant had bow ties on. However, we sat down and saw the groups around us were also dressed warmly for the snow outside. We ordered some drinks and then our experience with the service just went downhill. We would have happily stayed there for a few hours ordering some more drinks and desserts and making a night of it etc but the service massively lacked. Once the drinks were brought over, we ordered food which was then brought over by the waiter who left the table so quickly we didn't have a chance to ask for anything else - sauces, drinks etc. No one returned to the table to ask how our meals were (which usually in restaurants all over the world I've been to, they do), or to see if anyone wanted any drinks. Two of our group had ordered French fries with their meals - one lot was cooked perfectly and the second lot was so overcooked it was just crunchy batter with barely any potato inside. It was the same with the cod, it was so overcooked and borderline burnt, we thought surely no chef would send this out to a customer paying for it?! We actually said amongst us that maybe they'd done it as a one off and just sent it out. We had to then get up and find a waiter to ask them if we could have a fresh batch of chips, not so overcooked. They took the plate from the table and after a while returned with it. It was exactly the same, browned, crunchy overcooked plate of food. They put it down and didn't say anything. They never returned to ask how the food was, which especially after sending something back you'd expect they would do. We then had to then get up again and find someone to ask for cutlery and if we could order another drink. My friend didn't eat their meal and so when the rest of us finished, we had to go and find someone (it's not a big place) and ask for the bill. We asked for their meal not to be included as it wasn't eaten. We did ask why no one was attentive to the table and asked how our meals were or checked we had cutlery / needed any drinks etc and they didn't really have an answer, they then just said they were busy. It was the most disappointing restaurant experience all of us have had in such a long time. Not what you'd expect from reviews so good on Google so I thought I'd actually take the time to write our side just to let people know it's not as great as it seems sadly and to maybe not waste your last meal and last night in this place. The amaretto sour cocktail was nice and the...
Read moreHad lunch here in January after abandoning our walk due to heavy rain. My initial impression when we entered was that it looked warm and inviting. However that was almost instantly reversed when we were left standing in the doorway by an older waitress with glasses who, when I asked for a table for two, refused to welcome us in, and insisted very rudely on repeating from several metres away, 'you want to eat?' She then indicated with a shrug that we could take a table next to the door or further inside. She didn't move when we sat down but stood watching us till another waiter brought us the menu. We each chose burgers: one beef, and one vegan 'Beyond Burger'. The fries were fresh and delicious and my burger and the accompanying sides were good. However, the bun the burger came in was very flimsy and dry and kept tearing, and there was far too much lettuce. For dessert I had the Legendary apple cake. It was quite heavy on the cinnamon which I liked, but lacking apples and a decent apple flavour, and was quite dry and sandy in texture. Maybe that was how it was supposed to be (and the ice-cream, whipped cream and berries served with it helped make it more palatable) but it was not to my taste, and in no way legendary. Based on our experience I'm not sure i would recommend this restaurant. The decor is great and the menu seems decent, but the food we had was average and the service hit and miss. Though we chose to ignore it, the dismissive treatment we received from that first waitress was off-putting, particularly when we noticed she was very nice to customers of her own generation and race. The service we received from two other...

From the moment we entered the restaurant we were left standing in the doorway for sometime without any acknowledgment we had seen from the waiters. When we were eventually shown to our table we were not presented with menus and after waiting more than 10 mins we had to help ourselves from the bar. It was a full 40 mins until the waiter took our order for drinks. The drinks didn't appear and we had to keep asking for them, until finally after the food was served we got our drinks but in dirty glasses. We were offered an apology for the long wait and told it was because it was busy, we had pre booked our food so its not like they had too much to remember and we had the early seating at 5pm so the restaurant at this time was not full. The problem in our opinion was that the restaurant seemed under staffed and were struggling to cope. This was noticed and commented on by other dinners. We appreciate it can be a stressful environment but having been in the industry myself it does not require much effort to acknowledge arriving guests or even offering a drinks menu etc .. when sitting at the table (after all this will usually buy the server some time and keep most dinners happy for a while) Lorrys need to work on this and improve, but having said all these things we still had a nice meal in a great setting and it wouldn't put me off...
