I was totally surprised by the size of this board game café: they have a lot of space on two floors with well placed tables of various sizes that support anything from small 2-player games to huge table hogs. The atmosphere is very nice, only the lighting could be a bit brighter in some corners.
The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The entry/sitting fee is rather cheap for Oslo. The selection of board games is very good, especially for expert players looking for more complex titles. The games were mainly in English as far as I've seen.
Contrary to other such venues I had visited before, Spilloteket does not seem to employ people who explain the games to you. The person at the bar just gave us a quick intro where and how to find games but then we were on our own (which was super ok for us, I just want to manage expectations here. We did not inquire about further help, so maybe we would have got more handholding if we needed it).
I definitely recommend Spilloteket to everyone who likes board games and wants to have a good time...

We are visiting from the US and we love board games. My husband googled board game bar when we were here and bored one night and we got very lucky that a table was available when we walked in on an incredibly busy Friday night.
Everyone who works here is so nice! We donât drink alcohol and the Escape from the Shirley Temple was an incredible mocktail.
The game selection is amazing! I canât believe they already had the Slay the Spire board game which came out less than a year ago.
We played a fun game with some locals who taught us a game we didnât know, and that was extra special.
I cannot say enough great things about this place. I highly recommend visiting and I especially recommend making a...
Read moreSuper cool spot to hang out for an evening with friends. They have tons of games that you can use or you can bring in your own. It's very cheap to enter and since you can bring your own snacks it's a really good deal. We bought some drinks there and the staff were nice and helpful, even allowing us to use their portable speaker for one of the games we played that needed it. We booked a table on a Thursday night and while there were still a few tables that were empty, it is recommended to book ahead of time if you have a somewhat...
