FLOC -For the Love of Coffee. Being a coffee enthusiast and an overall foodie i was very curious to try this place. Especially given all the great reviews. Finally got the opportunity to do so for a friend's birthday today. I have to say i expected more from this place, in terms of food and in terms of service. The place itself is pretty and cozy. The seating is nice and comfortable and it's decor is very uplifting, especially the cute corner with a good selection of books up on the shelf.
We ordered a Butterscotch frappe, a couple of Coffee shakes (i think thats what it was called) and a Nitro Mocha (their speciality from their Nitro coldbrew menu) for drinks. For lunch we ordered two steak and cheese sandwiches, a fries with the works or loaded fries, a Buffalo Chicken Mac and Cheese and one Grilled cheese sandwich on grain bread.
The service was extremely, extremely slow. One would expect that a table will be served with their food and drinks almost simultaneously. Unfortuantely though that was not the case. The first beverage arrived over 30 minutes after we placed the order. Every single item which we ordered arrived one by one, with a gap of minimum 5 to 10 minutes between each. The first to arrive were the Coffee shakes. Good enough. After 10 minutes came the butterscotch frappe. That was good if it were a plain coffee shake. Not even a hint of butterscotch through it. It was sent back only to be returned doused in butterscotch syrup this time. The first food item to make an appearance was the buffalo mac and cheese. After waiting for a good 45 or more minutes we were all ravenous and all 5 of us pretty much attacked the bowl at one. The presentation was great but the mac and cheese itself, was meh at best. The buffalo sauce only coated the sparingly placed chicked pieces - the mac and cheese itself was totally bland and lacked flavor otherwise.
Next arrived the loaded fries, which were actually from the appetizers menu - so technically they shouldve arrived before the mac and cheese did? Anyway. They were actually better than decent. This might've been the most favorite item of everything we tried today at Floc.
The grilled cheese was next to show up. It was yum. Though i wouldve expected a little more show in terms of cheese strings, after all its a grilled cheese sandwich but taste wise it was good. The sweet and sour onion jam was a nice addition to it.
Next the first of the steak and cheese sandwich arrived. It was a good sandwich. Steak was cooked to perfection the bread was nice and toasted the cheese to steak ratio was perfect. My cousin who ordered it was a happy camper.
After I'd made my way through half of my meal, the Nitro Mocha arrived. Two things, VERY small and VERY BITTER. As i mentioned im a coffee enthusiast and have tried coffees from the best of places but unfortunately this was just watered down poorly made coffee. There was no mocha hint in this and no creme either. And for the serving size the price really is not justified.
After we were all through with out meals the last steak and cheese sandwich still had not arrived. Apparantly the server never noted it as a double order. After inquiring and requesting the server the final sandwich made an appearance 10 minutes after everyone else was finished eating. And what a disgrace. While the first sandwich was yummy the second one was nothing more than a disapppointment. The presentation was sloppy, the steak rarer than anyone of us would like it to be and worst of all there was a piece of hair in the sandwich.
Although we complained and were not charged for the last sandwich it really put a damper on our day.
All in all, i'd say the experience was pretty meh. I might give the place another chance maybe a few months down the line, but for the moment, i dont think theres anything that would prompt me to visit again...
Read moreFloc Cafe is a small restaurant with limited seating, but it boasts a pleasant atmosphere and overall good ambiance. During my visit, I had the opportunity to sample a few dishes from their menu.
The buffalo Mac n cheese left me with mixed feelings. While it was decent, I couldn't help but feel that it had the potential to be better. Perhaps a little more attention to the flavors and seasoning would elevate this dish to a higher level.
Moving on, I tried the steak cheese omelette, and I must say it was a highlight of my meal. The omelette itself was well-prepared and had a delightful taste. However, the beef in the omelette was a bit chewy, which was a letdown. With tender beef, this dish would have been exceptional.
The devil's hot chocolate was an absolute delight! Its rich and indulgent flavors made it the perfect pick-me-up on a chilly day. This beverage alone made my visit worthwhile, and I highly recommend giving it a try.
On the other hand, the iced mocha failed to impress. It lacked the robustness and balance that I look for in an iced coffee-based drink. It's not necessarily bad, but there are certainly better options available.
Summing up my experience at Floc Cafe, I'd say it was decent overall. The restaurant has a cozy and inviting environment, making it a pleasant place to dine. While some dishes like the steak cheese omelette and devil's hot chocolate stood out positively, others like the buffalo Mac n cheese and iced mocha left room for improvement. If you're in the area and looking for a laid-back spot with good food, Floc Cafe might be worth a visit. However, keep in mind that your experience may vary depending on what you choose...

FLOC is a small cafe that promises good coffee - it is part of their name. Unfortunately, what it delivers is nowhere close to acceptable coffee.
In their defense, I walked into this place after having tried and thrown away the coffee from two places. So my not liking the coffee at FLOC places it at par with other, higher-rated places close-by.
I asked the barista for a flat white and specifically asked them if they know what a flat white - to which they replied in the affirmative.
I explained that I want a flat how it is supposed to be made - pulling two ristretto shots from the espresso machine and then pouring microfoamed velvet-steamed milk into it.
The barista said yes, of course, and then proceeded to serve me a truly horrible drink with bad coffee and underprepared milk. I took a sip, thanked the barista, paid, and poured the coffee away.
Verdict: Skip if you are particular or finicky about your coffee. Otherwise, please chug along.
