For years, I avoided Okra, dismissing it as another overhyped spot. But curiosity got the better of me on my wedding anniversary, so I secured a lunch reservation after learning dinner was booked weeks in advance. The experience was, unfortunately, underwhelming. While Okra thrives on its exclusivity and reputation, the food does little to justify its price tag. We arrived at noon, and the staff promptly welcomed us. The hospitality, I’ll admit, was flawless—warm, attentive, and professional. However, the ambiance left much to be desired. The restaurant, though cozy with a Mediterranean touch, felt oppressively cramped. It seemed as though every square inch had been maximized, evoking the claustrophobia of a Tokyo eatery. Seating, too, was uncomfortable. Within 15 minutes, my back and legs began protesting, a sentiment taller patrons would echo. The complimentary bread basket turned out to be the highlight of our meal. Fresh, aromatic, and inviting, it hinted at the culinary finesse I had hoped for. Yet the accompanying condiments were bland and uninspired, setting the tone for what was to follow. We started with the crab on toast, which was, frankly, a disappointment. Despite a herby topping, it lacked flavor and was inexplicably salty. The crab itself was dry, streaky, and texturally off-putting. I struggled to take more than two bites. The "Steak and Eggs" followed—a dish that felt like a misstep on every level. The eggs, served sunny-side up, were a disaster: whites undercooked and almost rubbery, yolks raw and unpleasantly fragrant. My wife couldn’t finish hers due to the off-putting smell. The steak, meanwhile, consisted of two overcooked, bite-sized medallions that were tough, charred, and utterly joyless. At nearly Rs. 3,000, the dish felt not only overpriced but also insulting—ingredients that likely cost a fraction of the price failed to deliver even basic satisfaction. Desperate for redemption, I opted for the cheeseburger, hoping it would be a safer bet. What arrived was an ordinary beefburger with a charred, chewy patty and little else to commend it. While the patty was juicy, it lacked the tenderness and seasoning expected at this price point. The accompanying fries, soggy and bland, were no better than what one might find at a roadside stall for a fraction of the cost. The meal’s saving grace, surprisingly, came in the form of a drink: the Campagna with a hint of chocolate. Silky, well-balanced, and indulgent, it reminded us of what the restaurant is capable of if it pays attention to detail. Okra, I understand, thrives on exclusivity, with months-long reservations, at times, and an air of prestige. For some, dining here may be more about bragging rights than culinary substance. But for those who value flavor, creativity, and quality over mere appearances, Okra is likely to disappoint. In a city where dining out is one of the few leisure activities, this restaurant trades too heavily on its reputation and fails to deliver the kind of experience its price tag demands.

Incredible restaurant offering fantastic European foods with modern touches. Meals begin with the most fantastic crafted breads, with fresh butter, chili and olives oils, balsamic vinegar and roasted garlic. It was tough not to fill up on just the bread as it alone was a cut above the rest. I wanted to take a loaf home. Starters were incredible. We ordered numerous dishes and really no matter what you go with, you'll be hard pressed not to enjoy the food because it is really well prepared. I had the salmon pouches, the goat cheese and fresh fig salad, the buffalo mozzarella, the smoked mackerel, the crab salad and the portobello mushrooms. I really recommend all of them but the mushrooms and the smoked mackerel are a must try. The mains were delicious and I must recommend the lobster (although the portion was small and I would have been happier to pay more for a larger size), the fillet with the sauce (medium rare was perfection and the umami and flavor of the sauce was a great addition), and the special saffron, prawn and truffle risotto with zucchini. Finally desert consisted of many dishes from the fantastic creme brulee (widely a favorite), the chocolate gatteux, the flourless chocolate cake, the chocolate lava cake and the orange sorbet. We also had the tiramisu and it was my personal favorite due to how unique but flavorful it was. I'm not a big fan of ultra sweet deserts and this was perfect! We finished the meal with some varied teas and it rounded things out wonderfully. We had 3 vegans in our party and the chefs varied many dishes to suit the dietary restriction while maintaining the flavor of each. Everything was done to a very high level as one would expect from such a high end fine dining restaurant. They really did meet and exceed expectations. Overall, the best culinary experience you can have in Karachi in my opinion. I could see this restaurant doing well in any major international city, from New York to London, as it really is fantastic and stands out.

I’ve been doing food photography for the past several months and I have covered quite a few restaurants in Karachi. I’ve been inside kitchens, experienced behind the scenes of quite a few and made a lot of friends. I recently got the opportunity to cover one of the oldest and well known restaurants of Karachi and I was amazed to see how the owner, Ayaz Saab runs his place. Shooting Okra is truly an experience worth sharing with all of you which is why I’m giving my review about his restaurant, and no doubt it’s the best in Karachi. From the inside of the kitchen, to the staff, the ambiance and the food is a 10/10. I have never seen a kitchen so clean, the food being prepared so professionally till it’s served on the table by waiters wearing crisp white shirts. The reason to write this review is to appreciate their efforts of maintaining the food and restaurant quality since 18 to 20 years and I would definitely ask all of you to visit and experience this for yourself!

From the moment you step inside, you are welcomed by a warm and inviting atmosphere that sets the tone for an unforgettable meal. The restaurant’s sophisticated yet cozy interior, soft lighting, and tasteful décor create the perfect setting for a relaxed and enjoyable dining experience.

The highlight of Okra is undoubtedly its menu, which is carefully curated to offer a mix of Mediterranean and European-inspired dishes prepared with the finest ingredients. Every dish is crafted with precision, bringing out rich flavors and textures that leave a lasting impression. The quality of the food speaks for itself, with fresh produce, premium meats, and delicate seasonings coming together in perfect harmony.

One of the must-try dishes at Okra is their signature grilled beef tenderloin, cooked to perfection with a tender, juicy texture and incredible flavor. The seafood options are equally impressive, with their pan-seared red snapper and grilled prawns standing out as top choices. For those who prefer lighter options, the salads and appetizers are delightful, with the caramelized onion tart and goat cheese salad being highly recommended. The handmade pasta dishes also showcase the restaurant’s commitment to authenticity and quality.

The dessert menu is just as impressive, offering a variety of indulgent treats to end your meal on a sweet note. The chocolate fondant is a crowd favorite, with its rich molten center and perfect balance of sweetness. The homemade ice creams and classic crème brûlée are also excellent choices, adding a refreshing and satisfying finish to the dining experience.

Service at Okra is impeccable, with well-trained staff who are attentive, knowledgeable, and always ready to assist with recommendations. The waitstaff ensures that every guest feels valued, maintaining a perfect balance between professionalism and friendliness. Their attention to detail and prompt service contribute significantly to the overall dining experience.
