I have mixed feelings about my recent experience at Tabaq Restaurant, Lakshmi. In the past, I thoroughly enjoyed dining in, as the flavors were exceptional and reminiscent of my childhood. However, my recent visits have been disappointing.
I previously tried their takeaway and noticed that the quality of the food wasn’t the same as when dining in. Hoping to relive the original experience, I decided to dine in this time. Unfortunately, it was disheartening to find that they have not maintained the same taste that I used to love. I tried the chargha, which I was a huge fan of in the past, but it didn’t meet my expectations this time. On a brighter note, the mutton karahi was good and managed to stand out amidst the otherwise underwhelming meal. It’s unfortunate to see a restaurant that was once so reliable in delivering excellent flavors and ambiance fall short of maintaining its standards. I hope Tabaq can work on consistency, as well as improving its ambiance, to bring back the quality they were once known for. Their claim to fame is the chargha, and rightfully so. It's some of the best I've had in Lahore - perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor. But their menu goes beyond just chargha. They offer a variety of other traditional dishes, all cooked to perfection.
The atmosphere at Tabaq adds to the charm. It has a classic Lahore vibe, with a touch of history seeping from the walls. Reviews suggest the service is friendly and efficient, making your dining experience smooth and enjoyable.
There are a few things to keep in mind. Tabaq can get quite busy, especially during peak hours. So be prepared for a bit of a wait, or plan your visit accordingly. Also, some reviews mention that the prices might be a touch higher than other local restaurants, but most agree the quality of the food justifies the cost.
Overall, Tabaq Restaurant is a Lahore institution that delivers on its promise of exceptional Pakistani cuisine. The food is incredible, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the service is attentive. Be prepared for a potential wait and slightly higher prices, but for the taste of tradition, it's...

The food is below average in my opinion. We went there after ages just for the chargha, which now seems very ordinary, probably we can now taste different fried chickens and some of which are really good. So the biggest hype on chargha is not worth the price and your effort of going to a place like Lakshmi. Tried one of their makhni handis as well, which was pathetic, very low quantity and quality.
The service was ok except that the waiters didnt seem very knowledgable and avoided to provide any opinion on the menu. They were like just order what you want, we really cant recommend you what is good in our restaurant.
If you feel nostalgic about going to an old eatery and their chargha, you can try it out, but its not worth it anymore if you ask me. We also tried different Naans from their menu, but no, those were hard as tiles, and that was conveyed to us by our stomach ache. Trust me it felt like i cant get to soften those Naans after 24 hours. So, dont eat much and definitely dont go their twice ( your stomach will...
