I went with two other friends at 7pm on Sunday evening. We hadn't made a booking and initially thought the restaurant was closed are the gates were closed. However, they opened the gates and very warmly received us. The service is of fine-dining quality. There is good attention to detail whilst allowing you space to enjoy the company of your dining partners. The menu is beautifully condensed (I would much rather have a chef execute 4 dishes perfectly than 20 dishes badly) and showcases some of the best local produce. They effortlessly handled my gluten-free and vegetarian requests, offering a curry vegan dish that was off-menu. The flavours and textures are well-balanced and easily satisfy European expectations of 'fine dining', which can be hard to find in the valley. I was also surprised at how affordable our meal was - I paid the same price the next day for my breakfast elsewhere, which was incomparable in standards. This wife and husband team make a perfect front and back of house pairing to hold the space for your memorable experience of Peruvian food and culture. Thank you for such a...
Read moreIf you are looking for an extraordinary dining experience in Sacred Valley (Peru), look no further than Kallpa. Tucked behind the main district of the town of Urubamba, this welcoming husband and wife duo has established an exquisite little restaurant that (after eating at a number of highly recommended restaurants) far exceeds its competition in quality and price! The dining room is open and elegant, appointed with charm and symbolism of Peru. But the real feature is the food. The chef is masterful. The starters (we ate three) were as delicious as they were beautifully presented. The pepper steak entree was superb - two tenderloins with an sumptuous 4-chili sauce and pillow-soft gnocchi made from local potatoes. But the magic didn't stop there. The desserts were delicious and accompanied by herbal tea options - products of the garden. The chamomile is the best I've ever had. Oh - and Kallpa arranged a tuk-tuk (local taxi service) to and from our destination. Don't miss out on this gem of a restaurant. You...
Read moreWe were staying at the Tambo del Inka and our concierge recommended this place. We took a short tuk-tuk ride (5 mins ride from the hotel and cost about 5 soles).
The entranceway is lovely, adorned with some of the most beautiful plants and flowers. The bar and dining area have large windows that overlook the garden - a lovely place for dining or if you are just looking for a place to have cocktails.
Every course of our meal was incredible. We started with the shrimp, main course was the trout, and dessert was the lemon tart. Each course was flavorful, fresh, and left us smiling.
The service was top notch throughout our dinner and at the end, the chef/owner came to our table to introduce himself and also ask about our experience.
An added plus was the owner contacted a tuk-tuk to take us back to the hotel.
The owners are such lovely people and I sincerely hope this review encourages people visiting the area to dine with them. This restaurant is truly...
