This will be the first and last time we dine here at Antonio's Grill SM Ecoland branch or probably at any branch at all.
Before placing our order, we specifically asked if they accepted card payments. They said they do. We chose our food and made the order. More than enough for both of us. We were super hungry - we just got out from nightshift work.
Unfortunately, there were a lot of frustrating experiences:
Knowing the serving time was long, we specifically asked for just small appetizer. We didn't want a full serving as we already ordered so much. The waiter suggested Calamares and said they would check what smallest serving would be and would get back to us. They never did. Instead, after 30 minutes, they served the FULL ORDER without any confirmation if we'd want it. This Strike #1. We, of course, didn't want to make early complaints because the rest of the food weren't served yet(you know how it is inside the kitchen in some restaurants). We brushed it off. It's no big deal.
After 5-10 more minutes, the rest of the food arrived. We started eating. The rice was sadly UNDERCOOKED. Crunchy and clearly not done. We had to request a replacement, which thankfully was provided, but it shouldn't have happened in the first place. Strike #2.
Despite having several staff present, most of the waiters were outside chatting. We had to call for assistance multiple times. Even though we were the ONLY dining guests in the restaurant that time. Okay Strike #2.5. We thought we could forgive them for that.
When the bill arrived, we proceeded to pay with a card, only to be told that card payments were unavailable, despite being assured from the start that card payment is available. According to the staff, this issue has been ongoing since the previous day. They basically knew it wasn't working all along. We had to step out to withdraw cash, as our total bill was much higher than expected partly due to the Calamares(which ended up the most expensive on the receipt, btw).
When we brought these concerns to the manager, all we received was a generic apology. There was no genuine effort to address the inconvenience or make it right.
To top it all, the food was average and we ended up only finishing half of everything. But for the price we paid, we expected at least basic service.
Sadly, this experience fell far below even that. We won’t be...
Read moreWe love this resto since it started and had its first standing resto near downtown. When this resto closed, we were lucky that it opened a branch here in SM CIty Davao which was nearer our place. What they offer is Filipino fare that you've always loved but some with a twist. Our staples here are their pomelo salad, pansit, pinakbet, hito or tilapia and their liempo or grilled chicken. Food is generally tasty and flavorful. A serving of a dish is good for 2-3 persons or at most, 4. We usually bring our balikbayan relatives here as they crave for Filipino food. We receive good and positive feedback almost always since they also like the food. Their buko pandan shake is also something to crave for. Refreshing! Leave some for their native desserts like leche flan and halo-halo which are also big hits! Worth a visit when you're in this...
