Tsuru is one of the homegrown Japanese restaurants in Davao City and has been in existence since 1990.
Eating in its SM Lanang branch is a different kind of dining experience compared to its original location in Camus Street fronting the Peopleās Park. I can still remember spending one Valentineās Day celebration in Tsuru in the early 1990s. The ambiance is more of an authentic Japanese restaurant where eating meant sitting on the floor. At that time, dining in Tsuru was quite pricy. So newly employed people like us can only eat in the restaurant on special occasions.
Nowadays, price is reasonable especially in SM Lanang and while the ambiance of eating in the old restaurant and in the mall may have changed, the food is still delicious. Dining in Tsuru is certainly value for money especially if you visit the restaurant from 2 - 5 PM as they have promo on selected sushi and maki. Added bonus of course is the fun in malling after a super busog afternoon.
It is definitely worth a second visit especially once I am in SM Lanang.
P.S. I was not able to take more pictures of the dishes as I belatedly realized my goal of doing google review. Plus, I was famished at 2PM.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt's conveniently located near the entrance/exit of Sky Garden at SM Lanang. I believe it's next to Gerry's Grill. The best part is that it's near Fully Booked.
We dined around 4 PM so it wasn't as packed yet. We also used our card to pay here. Our bill came about 3K+
Service was good and the waiter helped us choose among the sushi and rolls because at that time there was a buy one take one promo. He also suggested some of the best items from the menu.
Service time was quick, like less than 10 minutes and I especially appreciate that they gave us a cold mug for the Sapporo beer.
I love all the salmon dishes š¤¤š¤¤š¤¤. The spicy salmon salad is to die for. Get the volcano roll as well (waiter's recommendation). Don't miss the Maguro (Tuna) and Sake (Salmon) sushi. They are the freshest and melt in your mouth. The chef's skill at Tsuru is at a different level. š„
I highly recommend this place and we will surely be back again in a week...
