Honest Food Review: Lugawan sa Tejeros, Makati
We recently visited Lugawan sa Tejeros, a well-known food carinderia located at 1006 Chino Roces Ave., Makati City, and it definitely lived up to its reputation! Here’s what we ordered and our full experience:
🍽️ What We Tried: L3 Lugaw with Lechon Kawali: This was very flavorful even without adding their free condiments. The lugaw already had a rich, savory taste, and they were generous with the lechon kawali. It never disappoints! Chicharon Bulaklak: Crispy and crunchy, served with vinegar on the side. However, it was slightly overcooked during our visit, which gave it a bit of a burnt aftertaste. Palabok: Their palabok was overloaded with toppings – packed with meat, egg, and crushed chicharon. It was very filling and flavorful! The only downside is that since it’s loaded with toppings, the sauce tends to dry up quickly. The noodles absorb the sauce fast, and it wasn’t enough to coat everything evenly.
🏠 Dining Space & Facilities: There are no chairs on the ground floor, but they have plenty of seating available on the 2nd floor (al fresco style). They also have restrooms and electrical outlets upstairs for customer use. Each table on the 2nd floor has condiments like fish sauce, calamansi, ground pepper, ketchup, and fried garlic. If you want chili sauce, it’s available for ₱5.00.
🚗 Other Notes: Parking: Roadside parking is available for motorcycles only; no car parking space. Security: The place has a lot of CCTV cameras inside and outside, including near the parking area, for added security. Payments: Cash only; they don’t accept any online payments or bank transfers. Service: Self-service setup. Delivery: Available via GrabFood. Accessibility: Not wheelchair accessible. Operating Hours: Open 24/7, perfect for early breakfast, late-night cravings, or anytime in between.
🔊 Important Note: Since Lugawan sa Tejeros is located along a busy roadside, the area can get quite noisy because of the vehicles passing by. This is something to keep in mind, especially if you’re looking for a quieter dining environment.
🎥 Fun Fact: Lugawan sa Tejeros has been featured on popular shows such as Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho, Ka-Tonying, and even Netflix!
✅ Final Thoughts: If you’re looking for affordable, filling, and flavorful Filipino comfort food, Lugawan sa Tejeros is a must-try. The portions are generous, the dishes are satisfying, and the place has that classic, no-frills carinderia charm. Just be ready for a bit of roadside noise, and remember that it’s cash-only and self-service. Overall, it’s a solid spot for your lugaw and Filipino street food cravings!

Read moreI remember this shop like way back years ago. Way before the accolades from mainstream media and the internet. Their arroz caldo and lugaw were phenomenal, but what remains today are the neon lights yet far less superior food quality. Back then the food was cheaper and extremely palatable with choices of fresh beef tripe, liver, and intestines. Their main dish the Arrozcaldo was cooked with a potpourri of natural herbs and spices like saffron, spices, garlic, onions, ginger etc. It was even topped with sliced eggs with green scallions. Now what they serve is a sad boiled and seasoned rice with deep fried pork fatty meat. They won't even peel the eggshells for you. Well, lugaw is truly essential.
The common folk are still buying, but I know that everybody knows the quality has gone done. Stripped down. Everybody feels like being taken advantaged of. I don't blame the shop owners, in fact, I am not taking away their stars. Life has been difficult, we have to find a way to survive but it should not be at the expense of...
Read moreA small restaurant specializing in goto and lugaw varieties, this place is visited by a lot of people. It is an open air establishment so you can hear the vehicles on the street and the chatter of people passing by. The steps from the street going inside are quite high.
You can place your order at the counter at the first floor. They will give you a number and call it out once your order is ready.
The people who prepare your orders wear face masks and hairnets. I cannot recall if they were wearing plastic gloves, though.
Watch out for the low headroom when you go up and down the stairs to the second floor dining area. There are a number of benches and tables and you'd have to share your table during peak hours.
The goto I ordered was of average quality. There are containers of condiments available. You can season your meal according to your taste. The price is reasonable.
This is a good place to go to if you want a relatively good...
