reason why I entered a single star is due to an unfavorable response from your officer in charge in Katipunan branch. have been a constant customer to the store. this afternoon at 12:30pm April 24. I went to your store to pick up orders I made. unfortunately, I felt a need to use a CR. I politely requested your officer in charge (didn't get her name) if I could use the CR. she refused because it was only for employees use. I asked again as I was really in need. she told me to use the CR of another establishment that was across the store... meaning she ewanted be to cross the street to an establishment that was even closed since it was Sunday. I was so disappointed and told her if that's the case I am cancelling my order of two packs of frozen oysters and some ready take-home katsudon meal ( was even thinking to add more plus other items from the grocery section... but all these were put off because of a personal need. since my efforts to request to use the CR was denied, I cancelled all orders ang just left. I was able to use the CR of Aling Indang even though I told them I wasn't buying anything... my request immediately granted. The incident in your store in Katipunan was unacceptable and will make a complainant because of the insensitive response to a request. this was purely a line call from your manager in charge pero nothing happened. I've experienced a need to use a CR in Mercury where they also have a restriction to use their CR, but if an emergency need arises from a customer, they permit usage of their CR. you operate your store as grocery and restaurant. as such, there must be a need for a public use CR for your customers. Due to this, I have decided never to visit your store again due to unmindfullness of your...
Read moreThe entrance of the store has a homey atmosphere, and right upon entering, you are convinced of the authenticity of their items for sales because there are a lot of Japanese!
Hard to find ingredients for Japanese cuisine can be bought here. If you're looking to cook a Japanese dish on just one rare, special occasion, shopping here won't break the bank because they will have ingredients in smaller sizes. No need to buy that 100 g pack of sesame seeds, when all you need is a pinch.
The downsides I see (and the reason for my four-star rating) is that they are still only "cash only" and have a sign up front that they do not accept debit or credit cards. Also, they have a lot of staff inside the store that are not doing anything, just idly gossiping with each other over the aisles, sometimes blocking items from customers' views.
If you do managed to have time to drop by, don't for get to check their cold storage area where they have...
Read moreI always look forward to my trips to New Hatchin. My most recent purchases were tendon, macha mochi, roasted barley tea, and natto. My favorite uni was not available so I settled for fresh tuna sashimi. There were five mochi flavors to choose from.
Since it was early and customers were still few, one of the store staffers, Joanna, walked with me along the aisles to help me with my purchases. She also turned out to be one of the cashiers so she was with me from start to finish. It was my first time to buy natto and she explained the choices available.
Her gentle and helpful demeanor made me feel like I was with a young Japanese lady in kimono somewhere in Shibuya instead of Makati. She even waved goodbye as I boarded my car! (If only New Hatchin had more parking).
What a most delightful spur-of-the-moment shopping experience. Back home, everything I bought was delicious as always. I was anxious about the natto,...
