I've been to Sukiya in Japan and was pleased that they opened branches here in Manila. I visited the Manila branch at 2/F SM Manila on two consecutive days and tried a few things from their menu. Disclaimer: I've not tried these in Japan so I can't compare.
On my first visit, I had the Soft-Boiled Egg & Spring Onion Gyudon (XL, P289.00), W Chicken Popcorn with Iced Lemon Tea combo (P120.00), and Chocolate Sundae (P29.00).
Gyudon was fine with adequate amounts of sauce and the meat was soft. The XL bowl is quite large and I already felt full with plenty of spoonfuls left. The soft boiled egg was cold though which came as a surprise. The rice was also good Japanese style rice.
The Chicken Popcorn wasn't great as I was hoping for something close to the karaage I've had in other Japanese restaurants. The chicken was a little dry and tough although the serving was good enough for the price. Iced tea is typical.
Chocolate Sundae came in a larger serving than I'm used too and there was a good amount of chocolate syrup. The soft serve is not as creamy as you'd have in a place like McDonalds and you could taste a faint bit of ice/water. This doesn't make it worse for me and I quite enjoyed it. The price is quite good too. I can see myself visiting Sukiya for a sundae snack.
On my second visit, I had the Fiery Garlic Pork Bowl (L, P215.00) and Coca Cola Float (P45.00).
The pork is okay but I do enjoy gyudon better. Between the L and XL bowl you can really notice the difference but I'm still undecided whether the around P100.00 difference is worth it unless you're real hungry. The fried garlic was tough which is too bad. The rice also I felt was not as good as the one that came with the gyudon.
The coca cola float I think could be helped by using different ice (I know this may be too costly) since they use solid cubes of ice in a narrow glass so it's quite hard to mix the ice cream and the soda and I was left with a bunch of ice cream after I drank all the soda. I wonder if this is a good thing though?
Service was brisk on both visits but the gyudon came out faster. I came in on my second visit with less customers so it may come down to the popularity of items and which are kept ready for serving.
Restroom is relatively clean for a fast food restaurant.

Read moreSukiya considered as Fast Casual Restaurant and was impressed by the friendly staff and outstanding service. The atmosphere was welcoming, and the staff went above and beyond to ensure a pleasant dining experience.
The highlight of the meal was the donburi-style gyudon, which was incredibly tasty. The tender beef and flavorful sauce made for a satisfying meal. However, the yakisoba was a bit oily, and the egg noodles stuck together, resembling a whole molo wrapper. This aspect could use some improvement, as the taste was not as enjoyable as expected.
On the other hand, the stir-fried kangkong was a top-notch dish. The fresh greens were perfectly cooked, and the flavors were well-balanced. It definitely compensated for the shortcomings of the yakisoba.
One thing that stood out was the house water served at Sukiya. It had a unique infusion of coffee flavor or Japanese tea, which added a refreshing twist to the dining experience. It was a delightful surprise and added to the overall enjoyment of the meal.
In terms of value for money, Sukiya Fast Casual Restaurant offers reasonable prices for the quality and portion sizes. With a few improvements in certain dishes, it has the potential to become an even more popular spot for Japanese cuisine lovers.
Overall, Sukiya Fast Casual Restaurant provides a friendly atmosphere, outstanding service, and delicious donburi-style gyudon. While there is room for improvement in some dishes, the stir-fried kangkong and unique house water make it a worthwhile...
Read moreI'm always on the go for solo dining/eating, so finding this place amidst the bustling university students is such a huge deal. As most Japanese restaurants, its so considerate on solo diners! The staff were all professionals!
The dining experience was new(?), Kind of, you will be seated first, then a complimentary cold tea will be given, and the menu, spoon/chopsticks and condiments is on the side of your table. There's a button to press if you're ready to order, the staff would immediately come and take your orders through their phones which automatically transfer your orders to the kitchen! Which means you get your food at a fast rate! Mine was given within 3 mins of ordering!
The price were budget friendly! There's different sizes to choose from! I ordered a medium gyudon (php 149) and a coke float(php 45). The food is goood just like your typical gyudon. The ice cream on the coke float, superb! Unexpectedly super good.
After eating you have to show the small receipt given to you alongside your food, to the counter and pay.
Overall had a great time dining here! Would definitely recommend to...
