Kamanggaan Grill and Restaurant gets a 3-star rating from me—it’s a mixed bag with some tasty highlights but a few missteps that keep it from shining brighter. The Pork Sisig and Kamanggaan Fried Rice are solid offerings, but the Chicken Curry was a letdown, and a couple of tweaks could make a big difference.
The Pork Sisig is a standout and a big reason this place isn’t lower on the star scale. It’s got that classic Kapampangan flair—crispy, savory, and packed with flavor. The pork is chopped just right, with a good mix of crispy bits and tender meat, seasoned with a tangy kick of calamansi and a subtle heat from chili peppers. It’s served sizzling hot, which keeps the pork fat nice and melty, perfect for scooping up with a side of rice. I enjoyed it as a main dish, though it’d be just as great with a cold beer for a pulutan vibe. It’s not quite Aling Lucing-level perfection, but it’s a solid take that hits the spot.
The Kamanggaan Fried Rice is another win. It’s a flavorful twist on fried rice, with grains that are nicely separated and tossed with a mix of ingredients that give it a unique, slightly smoky edge. I tasted hints of garlic and maybe some local spices, plus bits of veggies and meat that add texture. It paired beautifully with the sisig, soaking up the flavors without being greasy or heavy. It’s the kind of rice that feels like a meal in itself but plays well with others on the plate.
Now, the Chicken Curry—it’s where things went downhill. It was full of bones and skin, with barely any actual meat to speak of. Every bite was a gamble between wrestling with a bone or peeling away fatty skin, which made it more frustrating than enjoyable. The curry sauce itself had a decent flavor—creamy with a mild spice—but it couldn’t make up for the lack of substantial chicken. I kept digging for meaty pieces and came up short, which was a real disappointment. A curry should be hearty and satisfying, not a scavenger hunt for protein. They need to use meatier cuts or at least balance the bone-to-meat ratio to make this dish worth ordering.
The service at Kamanggaan is decent—staff are friendly and keep things moving, though they could be a bit more attentive during busy times. The atmosphere is casual and lively, with a typical grill-and-eatery feel that’s great for groups or a laid-back meal. It’s clean enough, but the seating can feel a bit cramped when it’s packed.
Overall, Kamanggaan Grill and Restaurant gets 3 stars for a strong Pork Sisig and tasty Kamanggaan Fried Rice that show real promise, but the Chicken Curry’s bone-and-skin overload drags it down. If they can fix the curry and maybe add a touch more polish to the service, this place could easily climb higher. I’ll be back for the sisig, but I’m skipping the curry next time unless I hear they’ve...
Read moreIt's 3.5 stars for me. This al fresco resto is in a good location along the national highway and their warm exterior lights invite the customers in. So we went to have dinner here. It's 8pm after the sunday mass and this place was packed. They have plenty of space for car parking but we still barely made it inside. We thankfully got a table after just minutes of waiting. The servers were quick and attentive which I think is an improvement from the low reviews I've seen of the place before. We ordered pork sisig, tinolang manok, chopseuy, lechon kawali, fries, lots of rice, and a lemon pitcher. All of the viands are for 2-3pax. Unless you're super hungry, most of their dishes are for sharing. From what we ordered, their food was delicious. It's just right for the pinoy taste. Their meat was a bit more fatty than expected. I wish there were spicy dishes on the menu. Their serving time took 10-15mins which is good for a busy place. We saw what must have been 10-20 employees at that time.
Rooms for improvement: 1. bathroom cleanliness and water supply, 2. plates and utensils cleanliness, 3. the vibes could be leveled up if they played ambient or live instrumentals, 4. some dishes we would've ordered were not available. Overall, this is a family restaurant specializing in local dishes. It's a good place to dine in. I just wish the buko halo-halo was available at that time because it looked amazing in the huge...
Read moreWe just pulled out from the parking lot, and I can't wait to give a five-star review for Kamanggaan Grill and Restaurant. The place is wide, airy, and comfortable; it is clean, with simple rustic feel to it that is charming and pleasant. There is enough room for car parking on either side of the restaurant. The comfort room is clean, and I think a lot of dining customers are very particular about.
The crew and management is friendly, always smiling, and very accommodating. It might be the manager or assistant manager who took some of our photos in front of the establishment.
And the food! Delicious, cooked right, like the home cooked meals your mother or granmother prepares for you when you come home for visits. We had kare-kare, pulpog (which my brothers and father liked), pink salmon sinigang sa kamatis, calamares, two orders of fried rice a la Kamanggaan (a specialty), and cucumber lemonade - all for only P1, 560.00
This experience made us leave the place with different kinds of "busog" (fulness): busog na tiyan (full stomach); busog na puso (full heart) because it was shared with the family, and that the crew were kind and chill; and busog na bulsa (full pocket) because the food was affordable.
We are certainly going back to this place, and recommend it to friends and relatives. Thank you, Kamanggaan Grill...
