Souq is a great place to have elevated Filipino/Kapampangan dishes. We got to try a number of dishes, all of which were delicious in their own special way. Okoy — Done differently compared to others, and we loved it. These were fried strips of papaya and carrots molded into a patty, which was perfect with the vinegar it came with. Salted Egg Tilapia — Crispy and umami. The salted egg wasn’t what we were expecting, being much more subtle yet still wonderfully seasoned. Fried Pork Liempo in Sambal Sauce — At first we thought this was kare-kare because of the presentation, but it was anything but! The flavors of this were powerful and creamy, making it absolutely perfect with rice. This was my favourite among everything we had. Duck with Coconut Adobo Sauce — Though the duck was on the drier and more tough side, this was still a good dish with a distinct Filipino twist. The Coconut Adobo sauce could’ve had more flavor, but still a good dish nonetheless. Matua (Meat in Tomato Sauce) — This was another crowd favorite. The meats were evidently pressure cooked to perfection. Even the mix of oils and tomato sauce were rendered very well, giving you a burst of deep salty and sweet flavors. Crab Rice — Beautifully enveloped in crab fat, this rice is sinful but just down right delicious. The one thing I wished that was done better in Souq was the upkeep and service. The restaurant is beautiful, but it isn’t being maintained well. Additionally, servers didn’t know what dishes were being served to us when we asked. Would’ve been great to have better service, but you can’t deny that the food is good.

Most of the time, Filipino restaurants fail to capture the true taste of Filipino dishes that we enjoy at home. Souq is one of those restaurants who are able to replicate real Filipino home dishes and serve it in their restaurant. The restaurant has this quaint feeling with lots of wood pieces adorned throughout the place. We had the fresh lumpia and ukoy for appetizer. The fresh lumpia was okay, I wished there were some proteins inside though to balance out the taste. Ukoy was quite good. For main dish, we had the seafood salpicao, kare-kare and caldereta. The seafood salpicao was okay, tastes a bit like those “pulutan” (bar chows) during beer nights. The kare-kare was a bit good - but lacked the rich taste of the sauce which came from stewing the beef together with the sauce. The components were obviously prepared separately. But it was rich in ground peanuts which you can taste with the sauce. The bagoong does not compliment the dish as much as we would like it to. But serves its purpose. The caldereta, on the other hand, is DELICIOUS. The meat was really tender and the sauce had the right level of acidity, saltiness and sweetness. The mashed potato in the middle was a great touch too. You can try to blend in the sauce with the mashed potato and it makes the sauce a bit more creamy. Restrooms were a bit untended to though. The male restroom didn’t even have a door knob. I just wish the management would try to fix the restroom as this is still part of the overall experience of the restaurant. Overall, will recommend for people to visit.

Horrible experience last MD! We dropped by here from Pangasinan to have a dinner as I usually dine in here whenever in SF. We arrived at 645pm, there is no host to assist all arriving guest. We need to go inside the main dining area where most of them are at the cashier/runner area despite there are people on alfresco waiting to be assisted and private room. Base on my observation. There are 8 employees on the day. 1 was assigned at the bar counter outside the main hall. And including the manager are at at the cashier/dinning area. Manager just focus on cashiering as she stand there for the whole time. With such a big restaurnat, i dont understand why she need to stand there instead of doing operational task. 1. The whole operations looks disaster and never organised at all. Why?, no one was assigned at alfresco dining area and private room area. When we arrived, i saw couple waiting for their food. Bulalo came first and it was on the table for a long period of time before other viands/rice arrived. 2. I need to go to the main dining area to ask someone to take our orders since we are seated at the alfresco. It was around 7.15pm. 3. We received our starter at 7.50pm(fresh lumpia-photo attached) 4. 8pm we received the bulalo and its LUKE WARM. I ask the waiter to reheat. First time i order Bulalo that was Luke warm. 5. 8.15pm all our orders arrived. And all of the food was COLD. I even ask the waiter/food runner to try and touch the food. The guy just ignore me and went back to the main dining hall. 6. I call up another staff to follow up on the plain rice that was missing. When she arrived she was apologetic. It seems like the staff(food runner) raise the issue. The waitress mentioned that the food was ready but they wanted to serve the all the orders at the same time since some customer complaint about why they need to serge the food 1 by 1. I did not buy it and told her not to generalize all customer. We order an appetizer( fried pork slice) and how come Bulalo came first before the appetizer? We wanted our food to be serve hot as food best to eat while its hot and not cold. 7. I went to the cashier area to pay my bills as no one is outside, to my surprise I saw all the food at the food counter area and no one is serving all of it. This makes me conclude why the food was serve cold and why most of the customers are keep looking around and seems waiting for the food. During payment, same girl staffwho is apologetic assisted me to settle my bills. I over heard customers following up their orders. Here's my advise. 1. During special events- pls ensure you do have more than enough staff both kitchen and service. Think ahead of time. You can avoid giving offdays and rejecting request. 2. Train people how to handle stress. 3. Pre planned or do a shift briefing before opening and make a scenario of possible situation may happened. 4. Make sure that MOD(manager on duty) is visible. He or she is the first defense for the feedback and seevice recovery. By right she or he need to engage to every customers. 5. Check your inventory and planned ahead of time. We wanted Okoy and Spring chicken but the staff mention it was item 86. Thats why we settled on fresh lumpia and the fried pork(i forgot the menu name) as appetizer. Btw.. Kudos to the mestiza lady that was apologetic to us. She was the only person i think who run the show on that night base on my observation. 2nd person was the bar guy, who I beleived received all the pressure from getting all the drinks order, serving the drink, and clearing tables. 3rd The security uncle who really do his job well assisting customers at the parking area. And moving around bringing his whiteboard to ask the owner of the car. Thank you to the 3 person above. The rest, they need to be calibrate. Fyi. Its my fifth times on that day. Previous dining experience were all good. I even brought my Singaporean Colleague here. Maybe, there are lack of preparations or IDK. PS. The temperature at the alfresco is hotter than the food that was served. Except the plain rice.

We went to this place with 6 people and one of us had difficulty sitting on toilet bowls without seats, there are no seats for their toilets and there is no wheelchair accessible entrance. The food is bland it doesn't have the delicious flavour kapampangan cuisine is known for, the meat and especially the fat of the Crispy Pata smells meaning it had been left ou for a while before being reheated, thw Kare Kare is bland you can barely taste the peanut butter, the Sizling Salmon is juat salmon hrilled umtill it's dry and then they added sauce that's too salty then next with their garlic rice, the garlic is so obercooked it's become bitter, the hokoy has too much sweet potato and there's only a single piece of shrimp inside. Now enough about the food let's tallk about service, they seated us rather quickly amd gave us menus afterwards ordering was also a breeze, after that however the service begin deteriorating, they offered us water but only served three of us cause the other three ordered cold water, which never came then we had to wait for at least 5 mimutes yes you heard correctly FIVE minutes, thwn we were given our plates with no sppons and forks after which we were served drinks then it was 10 minutes for the food when the food was served then and only then were we given our spoons and forks, slow very slow not to mention bad service. Lastly is the ambiance. The restaurant is dark it's hard to read the menus in the darkness the music can barely be heard over the music from the establishment outside, it's peaceful though however that's all it has. To wrap this up. Ambiance: 7/10 Food: 5/10 Service: 7/10

Worth the money. I love their Kare-kare. The sauce is very thick which I like the most and the crushed peanuts add texture to the dish. Pork is so tender and juicy. Kinda sweet but tolerable. During our stay, this is the dish that I liked the most. Their Laing is just a normal Laing that is on par with some famous Filipino restaurants. Nothing stands out on this dish, but it's good. Salmon sinigang was too salty for my taste. I cannot find the certain sourness that I'm looking for every time I'm eating sinigang. Sizzling salmon ala pobre is on another level. The tenderness of the salmon and their homemade gravy compliment each other. As a salmon lover, I recommend this dish. You should also try their salmon with pesto sauce! The place is easy to locate and I love the interior. It's giving me a Las Casas vibe. The only cons that we had during our stay was every time we ordered a drink they will go back to us saying that the drink is not available. Wish that they informed us about the drinks that's not available in the first place. But overall it was a great experience dining at this place. Will definitely go back to this place if we are around the area. Some friend mentioned that we should try their pasta and pizza, will make sure to try it soon!

Simple food done well as they describe it. But if you ask me, simple food done great will be more accurate. The quality of food is worth every penny (or peso). The Boneless Crispy Pork Leg was cooked to perfect crispyness. It was crisp until the last bite(about an hour after serving). You shouldd order this ahead since it takes 20 minutes to cook. We also ordered Tom Yum Fried Chicken, taste is good and perfectly fried. I just wished they served atchara with these. And to complete our "putok-batok" lunch, we went for Aligue Fried Rice, it's good for two. Quite frankly we ordered too much for a party of two and paid php1500. The manager even gave us complimentary serving of their special palitaw, it's a must-try. Having our fill of their tasty treats, we went around admiring the uniqueness of their interior. Antique chairs and tables of sorts masterfully crafted all for sale. I think the only downside is that the dining area is not evenly airconditioned. For me, I like sitting away from the A/C since I don't want my food getting cold. Restrooms are clean(if the boys' room is clean, I assume the girls' is much cleaner). Parking is easily accessible. *I went here at lunch time. I hope I can come back for dinner sometime.
