It was my birthday, and we had also just arrived in Tacloban for a 5 day holiday, so we wanted to go somewhere nice for dinner.
Ocho was disappointing after we were told it was the best seasfood place in Tacloban (turns out that wasn't true - Bayud is the best - see review).
Service. We ordered on the ground floor. We ordered grilled snapper. Fried snapper was want we received. When we told them we ordered grilled, we were advised that we would still be charged for the fried snapper and would have to pay additional for the grilled snapper. NO OTHER OPTIONS. The arrogance of the place was extraordinary.
Food. We also ordered squid adobo and it had texture equivalent to rubber and was totally inedible. We did not send it back due to the issue with the snapper. We also ordered a vegetable dish that was average at best. The buko shake was good but that was it...everything else was poor and not worth the money we paid.
Atmosphere. We had to sit upstairs. There's no view - just a series of large plain whitish rooms that U sit in to eat. Nothing special.
We tried a number of Tacloban seafood restaurants while there and we found Bayud was the best ...the size of the restaurant is great, the owners spent some time talking to us about their restaurant and their backgrounds, and the food was stunning. Skip the arrogance of Ocho and head...
Read moreKan-anan in Cebu has been my favorite restaurant and for me the best, but after my visit here in Ocho, I think I have a new top 1.
First of all, the experience is great. Not only can you choose your dish on the menu but also you can go literally pick (like turo-turo style) the raw meat you want them to cook.
Second, not only are their food delicious but also not that expensive. When I went there I ordered 2 Chorizo Barbecues, Ginataang Kangkong, Sinigang Swordfish, and Salt and Pepper Pork Belly all around P500.
I highly recommend their Ginataang Kangkong. It's there best-seller. It really tastes good! I'm not even a kangkong fan.
Last but not the least, their customer service is the best. The crew that assisted us pick our food is so courteous and really took extra mile helping us. The crew that served our food are also very courteous attending to all our needs.
There are a lot of restaurants that has service charge but their service sucks. Ocho here in Tacloban doesn't have any service charge and their service is superb!
The only thing that saddens me is that, as a local tourist who is not from Tacloban, I may only probably dine here once in...
Read moreThis establishment appeals to me as a "high quality, fine dining" restaurant, though the actual interior design is somewhat "old", and doesn't really give off an impression that would have complemented this restaurant's long standing reputation in the city. The whole design just feels, old. Dated. However you may interpret a design that didn't age well. But that's my own opinion, and even then, It's not an actual concern, it's just worth mentioning as a critique.
As for the menu & food, they definitely serve dishes that would merit them their appeal, by this city's standards. Serving seafood, clam, pork, poultry, beef & some interesting choices. Albeit the taste isn't out of this world, it's still delicious by it's own right, especially the sauteed fish.
To put short, while this restaurant is showing it's age, they still serve a wide variety of dishes and desserts that are worth trying, for those looking for a fine dining experience in an experienced restaurant. Just make sure you're willing to spend a thousand pesos or so if you want the...
