I made a reservation at this restaurant with the intention of impressing my English-speaking client. However, I've never experienced such disrespect in all my travels and dining experiences around the world. Upon finishing our meal, I paid the bill with cash and politely said "thank you," expecting to receive my change so that I could leave a tip according to my preference. However, the waitress did not return for an extended period, so I inquired politely as we had a tight schedule.
The waitress returned with my change and shockingly told me it was'nt her fault for not returning promptlybecause I supposedly didn't understand how "savoir vivre" works in a restaurant. I was taken aback and replied that I had dined in countless restaurants worldwide without any issue. She then condescendingly explained that when a person says "thank you" in a restaurant, it means they don't want any change back, all the while raising her voice and embarrassing me in front of my client.
In an attempt to de-escalate the situation, I calmly asked her to leave our table, emphasizing that I had come for a business lunch, not a confrontation on a Sunday. I subsequently spoke to the manager about my disappointment, to which the manager responded by asserting that the restaurant upholds high standards of "savoir vivre." In jest, I remarked, "Such high standards that I'm dining next to a large, furry dog." It's ironic, considering my profession involves traveling worldwide for site inspections, giving me an in-depth understanding of hospitality. I had never encountered such blatant disrespect and humiliation of a client before.
Educating customers about basic etiquette should be done with finesse and consideration, not by publicly ridiculing them. Instead of shouting and downgrading me in front of my client, all the waitress needed to do was bring my change. I had never indicated that I didn't want change. I simply expected her to return with it so that I could leave a tip at my discretion. Even with the misunderstanding, all she had to do was provide my change, nothing more.
It's unacceptable to berate and disrespect a paying customer. This experience was truly disheartening, not only for me but also for my client, who was understandably shocked. Despite having dined here six times before without incident, I regret to say that I won't be returning, nor will I ever recommend this restaurant to my clients...
Read more“Best Chinese restaurant”??? The food was as Chinese as if I ordered a cheeseburger and received mothers’ cutlets between basic white bread. The place is definitely for people who had never tried Chinese food. In total we ordered 5 dishes. We ordered 2 Sichuan dishes, guess what was not there. Our dishes were marked as spicy (in big red letters, lol), but in fact we received dishes in simple sweet and spicy sauce! How is that possible? Mapo tofu: if I order a tofu for 10€ price I expect to get at least basic tasty tofu. In fact: 1. Tofu was not fresh! 2. It was solid (hard). 3 there was nothing spicy (again, terrible sweet and spicy sauce that was not even somehow tasty). If you want to serve this dish, at least remove “mapo”, don't disgrace yourself. Century egg: please don’t put it in a sauce and don’t cover it with ginger. You can offer a sauce separately to it. A customer should decide how he wants to eat it. Instead you only taste ginger and the sauce more than the egg. Lamb in sichuan sauce was a disaster: the amount or sweet and sour sauce was dramatic, 0 spicy, 0 sichuan AND one little (not sliced) 3 sm red pepper laying in a plate looked like a joke: “want a dish to be spicy: bite a red pepper”, lol. Rise was ok. Mun mushrooms were somehow ok, but not authentic cooked (sauce didn’t match well with them). To be honest we recognized that something is wrong with the place even before we made an order: there were forks! instead of chopsticks on the tables, in “best Chinese restaurant”, hilarious. No wonder that you have 0 Asian guests. Oh yes, and the waiting time is truly really long as it is described in comments below. If you go to this place be ready to spend at least 1,5 h of not enjoying your meal. Price/quality and size of...
Read moreI made a reservation for two for an anniversary dinner, however due to some unexpected events I had to cancel. When I made another reservation it was declined, however using different email address and phone number worked which gave me the impression that canceling is not well perceived. In the restaurant we wanted more cozy table which was not a problem and improved the experience. The service was really good, can't complain. When it comes to food - starters were really tasty (we took oysters, 100 years old duck eggs and stir fry vegetables, dumolings). The main course was a disappointment tho, Dan Dan noodles were not spicy (I have a good comparison) even blunt, I had an impression that it's a try to adjust original Chinese cuisine to Polish palate which is not what I was expecting based on the reviews and restaurant's website. Wok chicken was okish, jucy but in terms of taste nothing spectacular. For the deserts we took mooncakes and cooked rice balls (the waiter recommended fried as more popular ones) but I'm glad we didn't follow his guideline. Overall not bad but not sure of I'll give it another chance. I prefere more original taste.
EDIT: The only option to answer is to edit this response - we shared our feedback, the only reaction from the waiter was 'I'll let the kitchen know, thank you' so a bit different from what you are describing. We also shared our feedback regarding booking system and the explanation was that system is not perfect even tho the best you can get. Difficult to dicuss...
