Remembering a very positive experience in Wi-Taj from my last visit in Warsaw in September 2021, decided to invite a friend for an early dinner. Sadly this visit didn’t go just as great. The restaurant is beautiful, located in a lively area but cozy, has very nice decor, clean and a big advantage is the outdoor seating area. I also love the name - Wi for Vietnamese and Taj for Thai, such a word play, Witaj means Welcome in Polish. On arrival we were offered a glass of Prosecco without being informed about the price. I thought why not, sure. But once the bill came I was very surprised - 19 PLN per glass. Prices of food have gone up a lot since my last visit just 8 months ago, I’d say by 20-25%. 43 PLN for a chicken Pad Thai and the same for fried rice with vegetables and chicken. My Pad Thai was delicious, tho only 3 pieces of tofu, which is disappointing since I love tofu. My friend’s fried rice was alright but nothing special, totally something you can make at home for a quarter of the price. A 330 ml Singha beer is 16 PLN. Unfortunately waiting staff wasn’t too attentive. Since I’m the guest I don’t feel like chasing someone around the restaurant to ask for the bill. I’d love to come back some day to try some more traditional Thai or Vietnamese dishes however prices put me off. Obviously some authentic ingredients must be imported from Asia which adds up to the food cost but a very simple dish such as fried rice costing 40+ PLN isn’t great. Our bill came up to nearly 200 PLN which is nearly as much as I’d pay back...
Read moreMy GF had been bugging me to come here for a while, Id probably spent over a year in Thailand and Vietnam in my life, so had my fair share of this type of food. We ordered some spring rolls, tom kah soup, glass noodles with beef, and a beef basil dish which came with no rice or noodles , and had to pay another 6zl to get some which I found a bit strange especially what I was paying just for the dish it self. Anyway paid 120 zl this was without drinks even. The spring rolls and the beef glass noodles( which were seriously greasy) were your average completely nothing special from any so called sloppy polish vietnamese place that U could of bought for a third of the price. Tom Kah soup wasnt bad , but came in a small bowl, and basil beef was nice/ok as well, small portion, plus had to purchase some noodles to it.Found it also strange that they didnt have such classics as Papaya salad, Massaman or Panang curry. Overall mediocre food, small portions, and over priced. I cook Thai quite well and it shouldnt cost this much, but hey my GF wasnt convinced that I cook authentic Thai and wanted to go, so now...
Read morethere's nothing reminded of Thailand/South East Asia in general in this place. Do not expect a warm Thai smile when you enter. They put me in the very corner of the room while other seats are still empty and there are no reservation mark on them, just to get me out of sight. I asked for wifi but the waiter insisted to type it on my phone for me. Ordered vietnam ice coffee, that is nothing vietnamese about the coffee, I am not even sure what are their interpretation of Vietnam coffee (it is not just espresso with condensed milk). I had the weirdest Duck Fried Rice ever, they put it in a hotpot and expect me to cut the duck meat into pieces with the knife inside the deep and narrowed bowl, the frozen asian food at the asian market even taste better than what I ordered. Soon after I done eating it feels like they rushed me to get out...
