Category: Tourist Area. Based on a recommendation from our hotel, we had dinner here on our only night in Obidos. In fairness, there are many restaurants in town with attractive atmosphere and I suspect much of the food is similar, but we really enjoyed our choice. The restaurant is on the second floor, reached by a staircase from street level, through a Portuguese-tile-wainscoted hallway. The single, comfortable dining room has an old-world feel with rustic dark wood clothed tables, arch-backed chairs, herringbone terracotta brick floor, tongue-and-groove ceiling, and plenty of wine bottles everywhere, but we were led straight through it to one of only two balcony tables, which overlooked a green garden, village cottages, and the countryside outside the village wall. We started with the cherry tomato 🍅 and mozz salad (the way to assure that the tomatoes are fresh and ripe in such a salad is to use sliced or halved cherry tomatoes, as this chef did). As for my main, for the second night in a row I had an Iberico Secreto (at a different restaurant, not in Obidos), which is the best cut of pork in the world. 🌎 Grilled briefly over high heat, it was perfect and juicy. Sarah enjoyed the sea bass. Portions were more than we could eat, even after our 14,000 steps that day. We capped the meal with the luscious chocolate mousse. YouTube’s...
Read moreExtremely rude welcoming to restaurant! I arrived at the restaurant the first evening in Obidos. The restaurant was about 3/4 empty. The waiter/host stood there and did not greet me. I asked him if I could sit outside on the patio (which they highlight as having great views on a sign at their entrance). He told me it was too humid and too windy. He said if I sat there, "it was my problem". I went out and sat at a table for about 10 minutes and no one came to take an order so I left. This was a deeply disappointing start to my visit in Obidos. After I left the restaurant, I walked down a block to the street behind this restaurant and found several restaurants with outdoor tables, full of customers and welcoming staff. I chose a restaurant there and enjoyed the evening outside. If you don't want to encounter rude restaurant staff, don't go here! Apparently I'm not the first person to encounter rudeness at this restaurant, check out some...
Read moreWe sat down for dinner based on a local recommendation. Besides us, there were three more tables occupied. I believe the owners of the establishment were a couple. Initially, the gentleman served as the waiter, and he was generally polite and professional. We ordered fish and salad. Our meals were not very good, but I can't say they were bad either. They lacked a special flavor.
The lady took our dessert order, and unfortunately, she was a bit rude. The desserts were not very successful. During the payment process, the lady behaved quite harshly, almost as if she was driving us away. I noticed her treating another table the same way. I don't know if she did it intentionally or if it's her normal behavior, but I can't say it was pleasant.
Furthermore, the atmosphere felt empty, and it was unclear whether people should talk or not. Other patrons seemed to be in the...
