Beautifully situated at the beach, this place was the perfect after-beach dinner restaurant. I ordered grilled swordfish as I’ve eaten a lot of it all over the world. It was full of queis/nematode… both in the meat (which it almost always is if they have maggots in their tummy) and inside.
We confronted the staff, and they told us it was normal. As a fisher I know for a fact that, yes it happens, but you don’t serve it to paying customers! The fish meat had a weird consistency, almost a bit jelly like, so I suspect it has been stored wrong or too long.
But it was, according to staff normal and there was no question if I would like to send it out, and we even had to pay for it. Even if ONE of the staff said sorry three times, it really didn’t help when they did not take it off the bill.
The burger was dry and the bread just crumbled off. We asked for cheese as it was not a cheeseburger, and we got it! One melted, and the other one laying sweaty upon that… the tomato was not ripe either.
The service was slow as well, and the food took very long to get. Some of us got our appetizer when the rest was half way into their dinners.
As for the lavatories; they were dirty, broken and not somewhere you would want to touch anything. No soap, no warm water and no options for drying.
The picture shows some of the worms, but there was a big ball of them which I just hid to not disturb the others...
Read moreO Golfinho is a great spot for fresh seafood, especially after a day at the beach. We ordered two freshly caught fish, fries, bread, and lemonades. The fish was excellent - flavorful, satisfying, and meaty. The lemonades were tart and refreshing, which paired perfectly with the meal.
The only weak point, in my opinion, were the fries - not bad, but definitely the least impressive part of the meal.
The staff was friendly and welcoming. They gave us helpful recommendations, explained what was worth getting and what they personally found tastier. You could tell they cared about the guests' experience.
The restaurant is located right by the beach, so while the setting itself isn’t overly fancy, it’s pleasant and relaxed. Most of the seating is outside under a cover, but if it gets too windy, there’s also a glass-enclosed indoor area with a few tables. The view really adds charm to the whole experience.
One thing to keep in mind is the price - the fish was quite expensive, even though it was delicious and fresh. So if you’re okay with paying a bit more, I definitely recommend it for a nice lunch with a sea view. Just maybe...
Read moreThe place is kind of popular, because there is not much choice around, where you can grab a bite or use a toilet (quite clean). The view is indeed nice, but why don't you just get some french fries and fish sticks with you and sit on the beach? BTW, the fries and sticks are terrible, but taste for yourself. Now, speaking of food: unfortunately many menu items weren't available (maybe it wasn't a season), fish is decent, but scrambled eggs are beyond evil (avoid at any cost!). Wine is some bottled homebrew, but fine too. Camel Cream (Baba de Camelo) dessert was surprisingly tasty, but I found a piece of something, that indeed might be a camel slime, so now I'm not a big fun. Sentence: visit at least once to try sardines, then get back to...
