Porta 36 — Restaurant in Aveiro

Perfect lighting and music. What we had to eat was very good - very good indeed. However, the service really needs to be improved. My wife and I both ordered starters. Hers (prawn bisque) arrived but not mine (which was only cold meats). I waited. The bottle of wine we had ordered also did not appear. I asked for the wine and whether my starter was ready. The wine came but still not my starter. The waitress returned, I asked her about my starter, had to remind her what I had ordered and she told me they had run out. "But I can bring you an Octopus Salad", she said. Just as my wife was about to finish her starter. I declined.

In the great scheme of things forgetting the wine is nothing. But not telling a customer promptly that one of the two dishes they had ordered is unavailable is very unprofessional. And entirely unnecessary. This is fundamental to their business. I had not seen before, but see now, that poor service features in several reviews. The owner would be well advised to get his team to improve their performance. In this difficult economic climate, especially, this would seem critical.

Regrettably, whilst I would visit Aveiro again for sure, I would not go back to Porta 36 unless I saw from recent reviews that they had improved...

We had a terrible experience on a Sunday at lunch time. We got there just after 1pm and at 3:15pm we got our food served. This ruined all our afternoon. It would make it better if the food was tasty, but no - the food was terrible. Out of the four dishes we ordered, only the “plate of the day” was reasonable. The codfish was extremely salty as well as the chickpea puree. The squid and prawn skewers were burnt and dry. Not even mentioning the size of the portion, that was just too small for the price and quality. The staff was very unorganised and only asked how everything was when we were paying. Overall it was a bad experience and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, specially if you actually want to have time to get to know Aveiro, since you’ll be spending all your afternoon waiting...

We had a terrible meal at this restaurant, it was in fact inedible. It started OK my prawn bisque was very nice and I didn't mind the long wait because the kitchen was clearly under pressure but then I had the prawn pasta. Oh my it was inedible, never have I had to spit food out. I would eat most things to be polite but it seems that they had been reheated many times and were completely hard. I ate some of the pasta but that was it not sauce just praewns and pasta.we did tell the server but it wasn't her fault. She did offer desert or coffee but we just wanted to get out of there. Hopefully we just caught them...
