José Estêvão Hotel — Hotel in Aveiro

Although only two star hotel it has been very recently refurbished to a high standard. It's sister hotel in the same city is a four star hotel called As Americas where we were allowed to park our car for free. The staff were delightful and rooms quite spacious, spotlessly clean with a new bathroom. Breakfast was simple but good quality. Less than a minute walk to the gondolas and wonderful bars and restaurants of this gem of a city. We paid 60euro a night but you could probably get it cheaper directly. We took Lonely Planet's advice and ate a sumptuous meal at the locally very well supported Adega Típica O Telheiro. A feast was had for around fifty euro including huge jugs of wine. It confirms our feeling that North Portugal is a fine place to holiday. The people are extremely laid back...

Accom was decent for the price paid but had too many inconveniences. 1) Parking outside the hotel was full and had to park at the mall across the river (5 mins away). 2) though reception was 24h, the staff were constantly missing during our stay and had to wait for them to reappear (i believe they only hired one staff to manage the entire hotel and was short staffed). 3) air con in the room was not working, we were freezing the entire night as we went during peak winter (end Jan). 4) room was extremely small and was unable to open our luggages fully.

However, staff were friendly and breakfast had a decent spread. Might be more suitable for people with short travels...

The hotel is located in the heart of Aveiro which is good for walking but bad for parking. They did have a lot we could park a short walk away though. There is plenty to see right out side your door and there is a shopping mall a short walk away should you need anything. The canal is a 20 second walk away.|| Rooms were medium sized and the hotel is definitely older like most of the buildings around the area but it was in very good shape. Decent shower and though wifi was only supplied in the breakfast area our room was close enough we got a decent signal.
