My husband and I have dined here a few times a week over the past three and a half years, until recently. It was our 'go-to' place with excellent food and service. We took groups of friends and visitors to dine with us here in the past, but unfortunately with recent change in management we have chosen not to frequent this establishment anymore. The service we have experienced in the last few visits has been appalling, (having to request our food three or four times, and when we eventually have food and drinks served we have to ask continuously for glasses for our bottled water, condiments, and have experienced piece-meal service, i.e. part of the food order delivered twenty minutes after the first, wrong orders arriving at our table, and price hikes with the same food as before that are totally unjustified (albeit having spoken to management, the excuse is that food is fresh and no longer frozen!). Note: they have a 'beach menu', but don't make it available unless you ask for it - which if you don't know it exists leaves you with the more expensive options only. At peak times staff are clearly under pressure with not enough staff to cater for demand. The excuse given by Management in response to us trying to understand why things had deteriorated so much was, "it's the fault of the unmotivated staff" (which was never the case before). The staff changeover over the last few months speaks volumes!, (there are few if any of the lovely staff we came to know and love remaining with the restaurant). The atmosphere is strained and whereas before we would have gladly brought groups of friends etc to dine in such a lovely location, our recent experience in taking friends here has been dreadful, with some of our friends becoming so exasperated with the bad service that they got up and left. This restaurant, despite it's lovely location, will not be featuring on our list of 'go to' places again. I would recommend avoiding it ...there are plenty of much nicer and better value alternative options on the Paradao. (I have no doubt we will receive the usual 'thumbs down' emoji in response to this review, as with all other reviews that aren't positive - customer...
Read moreTourists beware! We believe we were taken advantage of at this restaurant. We speak English, but what the management doesn't know is we are Cascais residents. We ordered in Portuguese and pointed at the dishes on the menu. Our server was very careful to write down our exact orders: smoked salmon sandwich and salmon toast. These are reasonably priced, smaller dishes as we just wanted a small lunch. It took longer than necessary for the orders to arrive, but when they did, the inexpensive salmon toast was changed into an expensive salmon dinner costing three times the original order. And, it was not delivered by our server who knew what we ordered! My partner was too hungry to argue, so he took the dinner (against my wishes-it needed to be refused). When the bill arrived, a cocktail had been added that we had not ordered or consumed. We had the cocktail removed from the bill. Our kind original server was not part of the remainder of our service - management mistake #1. Successful restaurants train the servers to assist their tables from start to finish. Only the assigned server knows what the customer needs and wants. I hope management will change their practices and not cheat those who appear to be tourists - because they may NOT be tourists, and they...
Read moreWe recently moved to Cascais and have been documenting our adventures. While out, we spotted an empty restaurant, Gloria, with large letters spelling "PIZZA." My kids immediately got excited, so we decided to sit down. Two staff members approached us with menus, and I quickly noticed there was no pizza listed. I mentioned this, and one of them informed me that pizza was only available for takeaway. We asked if we could order pizza for the kids, but again, they said it wasn’t possible to serve it at the table—only for takeaway. I suggested I could go to the window to order pizza for the kids, pay for it and bring it to the table and then order from the regular menu for us, but he said it wasn’t allowed to “eat takeaway food from their takeaway window at their restaurant table”.
I was baffled by this nonsensical response. We ended up leaving. It’s disappointing that this restaurant just lost their tips and profit, potential loyal customers, a positive recommendation in the international community, and a chance for free Instagram promotion. If I were the owner, I would fire these two the first second, as it’s costing the owner both money and reputation. With service like this, I wouldn’t be surprised if a change in ownership is on...
