Dirty place (at least it looks dirty and old) badly mannered costumers (it's on the train station and it won't be unusual to leave the train with your girlfriend and be welcomed to the station with the sort of compliment you usually hear from inspired construction sites...). Loads of people having their liquid breakfast there: super bock (local beer), whisky, mainly bagaço, however. Believe me, unless you really have to use their toilet (it's the station toilet, you have to ask them for the key) or buy something to snack or drink, go there... But get away, quickly, before one of the many drunks forces his theories and philosofies about the current state of...

Ci sono ancora angoli, in questa Cascais stravolta dal lusso delle grandi proprietà, dove riprovo l’emozione dei primi anni. Dove il caffè a 70 centimes ti piace non perché ti fa risparmiare gli altri 80 ma perché ti ricorda quel tempo antigo, in realtà vicinissimo, che solo qualche anno fa mi aveva fatto innamorare. E non perché "risparmi" ma perché ti riporta ad una dimensione di calma e rispetto difficile da spiegare se non l’hai vissuta. E allora proprio lì, sotto l’Intercontinental, proprio all'ombra di quel mostro del lusso che per primo ha aperto e guidato questa trasformazione trasfigurante verso il nuovo imponderabile irraggiungibile moderno a sette stelle, ecco, proprio lì sotto, nascosto ai più, c’è il bar della stazione di Monte Estoril, esattamente uguale a quando, solo 11 anni fa, scendevo lì col passeggino per esplorare e scoprire questo paese delle fate. Si, dentro è bruttino, non l’ha disegnato un designer. Ma lui, il senhor Joao, che non parla inglese e ti serve con quel modo rispettoso e un po’ ruvido, tipico di un certo tipo di portoghesi, mi fa sperare che non sia proprio tutto perduto.
