Restaurante Cabra Preta — Restaurant in Castelo Branco

I checked into a Tryp hotel and went down to dinner. I could not get a table and was ignored and treated badly. I complained to the manager and ordered a taxi. The taxi took me to the wrong restaurant. A "perfect" night so far. It dropped me off at this place. I don't speak any Portugese and I was alone. A lovely gentleman was quickly found who spoke excellent English and was extremely welcoming. We had a quick conversation and he found me a nice table which he had had prepared with some local nibbles. Ah ha! I thought, he sees me as an easy mark! The cheese, chorizo and breads were excellent and the olives were good. I ordered a Prawn dish from Mozambique, a tribute to Portugal's global heritage. It was stunning and the wine choice was very good. An almond cake was offered for dessert and that was exceptional. This is one of the most welcoming places I have ever been. All the staff are great and the chef is presenting a clear vision of modern ideas based upon strong Portugese traditions. Find this place. Bring friends and eat here. Enjoy it. I ended up visiting this place 3 times for dinner during my stay because their food was so good. I got to know the chef also and she was such a charming powerful woman who plays wonderful magics on her food. I tried almost all the main dishes (I tasted my friends' also) and all tasted so great and unforgettable. I already miss what I ate and thinking about it makes me want to eat it again! It is worth visiting Castelo Branco just to eat at this restaurant. The staff Marco was super friendly and generously let us try different stuff, shared his stories with us. Friendliness and generosity has been common characteristics of people in Portugal and that makes this country a unique gem of Europe. Les avis sur le service et la qualité de la nourriture étant très positifs, nous nous sommes rendus à Cabra Preta à notre arrivée à Castelo Branco. Sans réservation, la serveuse nous a indiqué que nous devions attendre 40min. Aucun problème puisqu’ils disposent d’une terrasse extérieure, nous leur avons dit que nous patienterons avec un verre. 10min plus tard, je retourne au bar, la serveuse avait oublié que j’avais demandé une table et m’a demandé d’attendre pour commander un verre. Ayant peur de rater notre tour, nous sommes revenus au bar et la serveuse fait des allers retours sans nous regarder ni demander si nous souhaitions boire quelque chose (ce que nous lui avions signifié 2 fois précédemment). Attendant depuis 20min par 36 degrés dehors, je me suis servie une bouteille d’eau directement dans le frigo en lui disant que je commençais à me sentir mal et elle a daigné me donner 2 verres à ce moment là, toujours sans même me parler ni me regarder. Une fois à table, après 20min d’attente toujours sans nous parler, nous avons commandé vin et nourriture. Le vin arrive, la bouteille ne nous est pas présentée, le vin est servi, il n’est pas mauvais mais il n’a pas le goût attendu. Je regarde la bouteille une fois la serveuse partie et constate que ce n’est pas la bouteille demandée. Quand je le signifie à la serveuse, elle me dit que je n’ai rien dit en voyant la bouteille (bouteille que je n’ai pas vu au moment du service pour rappel). Après 1h d’attente, la serveuse vient nous voir pour nous redemander notre commande de plats car apparemment ils ont un problème d’électricité donc ils n’ont pas pu cuisiner notre plat (toutes les autres tables sont servies sauf la nôtre, même des personnes arrivées après nous, d’où notre incompréhension.) C’est la première fois de ma vie que je laisse un commentaire sur Google mais le service n’est ni professionnel, ni agréable, ni même respectueux.
