Immensely helpful and easygoing owner. We got there but he was fully booked so he redirected us to another restaurant close by and offered us to place a reservation for the next night, which we did. Simple family food like in most places we've checked out in Portugal. I had chicken. Yes, plain chicken. And the meat was as tender as butter! And I've eaten chicken my entire life, but never yet with such a smooth texture. The sauce it was in was very good although not exceptionally tasty. Oh, and about the price: 20 euros for two including a beer and a half-liter of red wine. A real bargain. If we were to ever come back to Elvas, this is a place we would definitely come back to. Oh we loved this little place, just the perfect lunch spot for an authentic and freshly prepared Portuguese lunch. No English is spoken, but my husband simply ordered the daily special which looked like a big crock of delicious soup. We got our huge crock of pork and bean soup, ate two bowls each then looked up to see the owner with two huge plates of simmered pork and french fries. It was so good we ate that, then he brought a plate of five different types of cake for us to share-- the best sweets we've had in Portugal. He was so kind and charming and so happy that we liked the food. The bill for two daily 3 course specials, a large bottle of water and a beer? 20 euros. Traditional tasty food. Lovely owner and instant service. Very good price. Family atmosphere. Huge portions.

This is a highlight of my visit to Elvas. I would travel for 3 hours again just to come here.

I recommend reservations because the restaurant is small and there are a lot of visitors. Only cash but an ATM is right around the corner.

I was asked if I wanted seconds! But I couldn't even finish what I had, the portion was too big. The owner greets and serves every visitor. Speaks Spanish or Portuguese.

And when we met the owner in a different restaurant where he was having lunch the next day, he said hi to us. And the day after when randomly passing by his restaurant he also greeted us 😊
