Pastificio Gusto Ajuda — Restaurant in Funchal

We wanted to go to the other branch near the Lido, which we've eaten in many times except it wasn't open. Came here instead. Not an overly friendly welcome, server pouring a pint "yes" she said "go and sit". We did. The next server came, and we asked for a red wine and large beer. "No English," she says. We muddled through, and everything seemed okay. White wine and small beer arrive, never mind, we'll take that. Next is the food order : lasagne and pizza. 5 minutes later, "no carne lasagne, finish," decided on another pizza instead. Pizza's were nice, massive - we couldn't finish them nor take them back. Loved their tasty Carbonara and the Poncha. Despite the language barrier, the server went out of her way to ensure my meal was satisfactory. She was very timely in checking with me and knew just when to clear plates and ask if coffee was needed.

I can't speak to the interior of the restaurant as I sat in their outdoor patio. The patio was well spaced allowing movement back out into the sidewalk. Many are crowded so that you can barely pull back your chair....
