I love this charming Tea Cafe!
I had walked by on a previous day and the food and teapots caught my eye. There's a very large outdoor patio with lots of seating. The chairs are cushioned and have pillows.
I went for a very late lunch around four and got a ham and butter sandwich and the Iced Tea of the day, which had tropical notes and was a cherry red color. The scones were raisin, which aren't my favorite, so I asked what else the friendly waiter would recommend and he said the Madeira Honey Cake. The cake was served with a little howl of whipped cream sprinkled with honey.
It was the perfect amount of food and a lovely little feast. I want to wax poetic about the ham sandwich, because until you have one in Portugal, you don't know what you're missing. Their ham is thin sliced and so flavorful, perfect with the butter. The bread, no matter the kind, is always baked fresh that day and so flavorful. It doesn't look astounding, but it's so tasty!
I'm a huge afternoon tea fan and look forward to returning with a friend, so we can enjoy one of the many tea brunch options for two. There are so many tea blends to choose from and lots of baked goods if you just want to order one dessert and a pot of tea.
All the salads, sandwiches, and meals looked good and I think this will be my home away from home. Friendly service with lots of people lingering and having a proper visit.
Beautiful presentation, charming atmosphere inside and the perfect alfresco dining spot for breakfast, brunch, lunch or an afternoon pick-me-up. They close at 7 p.m. (1900 hrs) very reasonable prices and great...
Read moreWhilst on a weeks holiday in Funchal we visited here twice at lunchtime and the service was perfect. The chicken salad sandwich on traditional bolo do caco bread was delicious and the fruit scones with lemon curd were among the best I’ve tasted and that’s a huge compliment coming from a Scot (as scones are a Scottish thing 🏴) The tea was very nice and beautifully presented with lovely little china cups, saucers and teapots to match. They even sell the tea to take away and give individually wrapped teabags as little gifts. I bought the Fantasia Romantica blend as this was my favourite from the ones we tried although they were all good. I would definitely recommend and will return if back in Funchal. Lovely lunch in beautiful chilled...
Read moreThe place itself is in a nice and quiet square with very good vibes. The tea house looks very nice inside and out and very clean. There are a wife variety of sweets and cakes to choose from. The coffee is good roast I believe South American origin beans. We had a salty brunch of toast with ham and cheese. It was good, simple and the butter gave it a good taste overall. The reasons I took out one star from my review is the service. The waiters were two of them, one was very nice and patient but the other waiter, with eye glasses, was really impatient with us and pretty rude in the sense that the way he addressed us was rushed and angry as if we did something wrong. I did not understand why. Its a shame. We did not say anything and...
