Monumental Bar — Restaurant in Funchal

We were just here for a coffe at first. The coffe (Espresseo) was very good already. The waiter then kindly showed us around and was very welcoming. So we came again and it was not a disappointment. We came quite late for diner and had no reservation, but we were still gretted with a smile and had a table ready for us. So far so good. Service was on point, very kind and aware. The food was amazing, especially the Risotto with prwans, this alone is worth the visit. After that we had some drinks outside at the bar. They serve a variety of cocktails with selectet spirits. All in all, really worth the visit. You can go there in the morning as well as evening until 0:01 - 0:02. All in all, nice service, good food, small menu with good stuff only. We visited this place in 2020, it was a smaller bar with fantastic service, good drinks and food. Now - it's a pity - we didn't manage to check it. 11:30 am, few customers and the staff completely uninterested in their work. For over 15 minutes, no one came to us or cleared the table after the customers had served. Mr. and Mrs. waitress are talking to the bartender and even when they go outside - they pretended not to see us - when they passed by us - we were sitting next to the door. We used to have great memories, now we don't recommend it. I feel sorry for the owner, because it looks like the bar has been beautifully renovated, but the service spoils...

Wanted a light dinner in the early evening and chose the Monumental Burger. For this snackier menu the seating is outside in the area shared by Tiles Restaurant (more refined menu, same business?). The food was quite good but the outside terrace dragged my overall rating down. It is just below the street level (steps down) and right next to a municipal bus stop, so there is much street noise and activity but moreover a continuous exposure to vehicle exhaust fumes, which is noticeable!
