Tiles Restaurant — Restaurant in Funchal

However this one for me was exceptional as a dining and rapport experience! Almost passed this restaurant and was pleasantly suprise by the front of house staff member. Without being pushy he was able to persuade me it was worth going inside, as the interior was more inviting than the street exterior, and so it was. Was immediately greeted and welcomed by a very professional member of staff. He interacted and recommended a meal which we were unsure of (not the most expensive one either). Very knowledgeable about the bottle of wine we wanted to go with the meal. We chose: Steak from the Brewery and Apple Crumble and Black and White (coconut was the white, and the chocolate was the black, with passion fruit puree in the middle). Totally delicious and tasty, excellently presented on the plates as the images will show. The member of staff who was our waiter really bothered to ensure we were happy with our meal which surpassed all our expectations for such a humble looking establishment from the roadside view. I have to say the standard equalled that to the 5 star Hotel l am staying in. Welcoming multilingual staff who are very efficient in the running of the restaurant. There is an outside area at the front where drinks and snack type meals are served, which is alongside a busy road and pedestrian walkway. There is also, however, an indoor and outdoor area at the rear which is much quieter and where they serve a more restaurant style menu. I had the 'Steak of the Brewery', that was a steak served in an ale sauce and which I really enjoyed. My wife, however, found the Chicken & Mushroom Risotto far too salty where she felt that she couldn't really taste the chicken. Would not recommend Tiles Restaurant in the Lido area of Funchal for NYE Dinner. Very disappointed, No atmosphere. Food OK, but at euro75.00 per person was not a great experience. Booked a table in the Restaurant via e-mail 6 months in advance and had written confirmation of the booking. When we arrived we were seated in the snack bar area of the Monumental Bar. I complained to the Manager, who was most unhelpful, what adds insult to injury is that the Restaurant area was only half full all night.
